Do yourself a favor and start with this site. You may just get it all done the first time.

This is the only way to purchase a computer as far as I'm concerned. The winning feature is the ability to customize YOUR system is minutes. From the hard drive to the processor to the support contract to the keyboard to the sound system - each item is left up to you. And each option is fairly well explained - they don't just leave you in the dark as to the meaning of a "20 gig hard drive".
While customizing my system, I felt like a queen. "If I don't want a generic keyboard, I can upgrade to a better one. And while I'm at it, if I found a nice 17in monitor for $100, I can choose the "no monitor" option and subtract a couple hundred dollars."
The site works well if you need just the "computer box". For instance, if you already have a keyboard, mouse, printer, etc but need a better system, just unselect all the pieces you do not need. Happy shopping...
