Re: Embassy Suites are nice (Reply to this comment)
by millinocket
Patti,
After we stayed at one last fall, I have been unsuccessful at achieving an employee-rate reservation at another. As expected, that's considerably less than what you paid. I think my kids ate what the rate was in the breakfast - they ate for about an hour and a half that morning. My son still talks about "the E hotel".
I think we might be the only people on Earth that pay rack rate. Someday I'm gonna figure a way around that. But yes, having a teenager around does make that breakfast extra valuable!
It's a bit nicer than Hilton Garden Inns or Doubletree just because the breakfast is included. I think most of them tend to be the same - could use improvement in regard to the other meals from the restaurant.
We haven't stayed at either of those - but as the kids get bigger, we definitely need the extra space of two rooms. And the free meal. But the restaurant does need work. They seem to be trying for upscale, but the food doesn't merit the prices.
Hope you had a great trip. You need to come to the White Mountains sometime
We had a blast! I would love to take the kids out east - I've been there, but it's been a long time.
I wish travel was free. I would do so much more of it if it were......;)

Chadley McFlamewar,
I can't believe there are fights in the Hotels and Resorts section! I love it.
Well, I travel rough. A hotel has to be able to handle my extreme....ness.
And, of course, I feel Sue always comports herself as a CL.
Of course you do, because you can read my mind and know that it is pure as the driven snow at all times. Stop laughing.
Except that this is like the third Seattle-based review of hers that in no way mentions me. CL that!
I solemnly swear that I will mention Chad in my next Seattle review. You might have to pose as Orca bait, but you'll be there.
Picky Orcas only eat TRs, you know.

Chris,
No problems at all Sue - I enjoyed the read, and got a good feel for what this hotel is about.
It took me longer than I planned to get it posted, thanks for getting it added so quickly!
Sounds like a reasonable stop over as long as you only eat there for breakfast.
Yep - that's pretty much it - a decent room with plenty of space and breakfast before heading out for the day.
Hope to see you in hotels and travel again soon
Oh, you will! One of the other good things about this hotel is that it's a little north of Seattle, so we didn't have to drive through the city to go whale watching!!

Alex,
You've not only written another top-notch review, but you've channeled Yoda, as well.
If only I had done it on purpose (I'm woeful with Star Wars anything).
Great review this is. Truly, a Jedi Master you'll be.
I get to be a Jedi Master? Well, then I'll brush up on my Star Wars right away!!

Nvherron,
Interesting. Reading the review, it appeared totally inocuous, but then I noticed there was 30 comments on this review. I was intrigued, to say the least. What a great way to spend a lunch hour reading it all.
Actually, it is totally innocuous. Just a regular review of an average hotel, with both good and bad qualities that land it squarely at three stars.
The contradictions of which you speak are inherent to most experiences in life - most things have their goods and their bads.
We are giving others a glimpse into our mind...which is a scary place to go with some of the people around here.
I could not agree with you more.
Thanks much for stopping and commenting!

Although I definitely am not taking sides either way, because both sides seem valid from an objective point of view. I do want to make the following point...life is contradicting.
If you think about it, how often do any of us contradict ourselves? Sometimes people point out contradictions in me that go way down to my core. Politics, faith, personal creed, and especially my criticisms. I think our opinions, or epinions, are probably the most inconsistent and contradictory concepts we can relay to others. We are giving others a glimpse into our mind...which is a scary place to go with some of the people around here.
Just food for thought. Have an excellent day...all of you.

Smorg,
Great review as usual, matie!
Thank you kindly!
Four people in one room for 6 nights and you'd do it there again. That says a lot for the place!
I'm telling you, that extra space is really, really nice. It's a good option for the type of vacation we were on. Not great, but nice. I don't mind doing the single room someplace like Hawaii where you can walk directly out onto the beach, but since we didn't use the hotel amenities all that much, this was a perfect option to have (and cost way less than that one room in Hawaii, that's for sure!!!).
We good lookin' bunch attract too many admirers sometimes, ay?
I think mostly people are attracted to me because of my Crazy Cat Lady likeness. It is, you have to admit, wildly sexy and bound to draw admirers from across the globe.
Cat hair covered brown bathrobes are the new black, you know.

Re: Hmmm.... (Reply to this comment)

Well, Don, for me, it was just the mixed message sent in the review that earned it a helpful rating from me.
Personally, I don't see the point in recommending a place with lumpy pillows, a cheesy atrium, a skanky pool, a warm refrigerator and a mediocre restaurant. It's not a place I'd want to spend $179 a night on and it seemed more like a warning type of review, like '...don't come to this place...it truly sucks...', yet it comes recommended.
See. That's why. Since you wondered.

C,
... when you going away for vacation, I go to the movie theatre and take a commanding lead in the race. ;)
Gah! You fiend! I should have known that you would be so devious in my absence - must I watch you every minute?
I miss Seattle. I used to go there every year when I lived up in Vancouver, BC. Now it's just a memory.
As I told Sir Dave below, we were hoping for a day trip to Vancouver but couldn't get me a passport in time. We do hope to go back again, so next time, I will have passport in hand and you and Dave can tell me what we should see in B.C. (I mean, besides my grape peeling date with Sir Dave, of course).
But I'll take a 3 movie lead any day of the week. LOL
You are a movie scoundrel, and I will be having my revenge in the form of matinees, yes I will! But three? That's just cruel!
But I will win in the end, Papa 'Visdo. I don't know quite how just yet (since vacation did take up a considerable amount of my "leaving the house" time for the year) but I will....;)

Milena_zepeda,
...what the Embassy Suites would be like. It's interesting that you recommend it overall, because when I read your review, the place just does not seem very appealing to me. Although I suppose if it was a family vacation and you weren't looking for a luxurious hotel experience, it would do.
You know, they're sort of a hybrid sort of place, I guess. And I'm sure each one is different. They want to go for the feel of luxury suites, but keep the costs down, so they don't quite get there. But just for the extra space we needed it was perfectly adequate. I would go back for the same sort of trip - one that wasn't heavy on the hotel time. The benefits outweigh the drawbacks on this one, but it's still just average.
I think the following line is the most confusing to me, because you call the pool 'skanky' as part of the Bottom Line.
"...the pool is fun for the kids..."
I guess I find that odd, because if it's not clean enough for me, it sure isn't going to be clean enough for me to be comfortable letting my kids play in it. Maybe that's just me, though.
Nah, the kids were fine. They loved it, even though it was teeming with other kids. I figure I send 'em to public school every day, I can surely let them swim in the hotel pool. I wouldn't want to do either one, but they have nice young immune systems and haven't had time to develop proper germ phobias yet.
Anyway, this was a nice, helpful review.
Thanks for the visit!

Barbara,
that you couldn't enjoy your stay at this hotel more than you did...But, what I credit you for taking it in stride....That is certainly a plus..:)
Yeah, it was fine, really. I would stay again, especially as a tourist. The free breakfast, parking and extra space were awesome, the other things just sort of run of the mill hotel nitpicks. I don't know about staying as a business traveler, though, where one might spend more time in the hotel and want things like better food or a pool not filled with kids until ten o'clock.
But for us - it was......wait for it......nice.
