After 23 hours travelling the last thing I needed was the Dollar experience in Phoenix. On a very hot night I queued for about 25 minutes before getting to a desk. I was offered everything under the sun except the car I had already paid for some weeks in advance. Eventually I convinced the salesman that I neither needed nor wanted any of his upgrades and additions and went down one floor to pick up our car. Except that the salesman couldn't find the keys - unbelievable. We had paid for a Dodge Caravan with a particular seating configuration (because of a disabled passenger's requirements). The salesman offered an alternative Dodge Caravan which didn't suit because of the seating arrangement. There were four of us and since one was disabled we had been quite specific in the vehicle we wanted. All we then wanted to do was get the car and get to the hotel for a night's sleep. We were even invited by the salesman to search for the keys ourselves to the van we wanted. Finally, totally exasperated and knackered I paid $460 to upgrade to a slightly larger Dodge Caravan with the correct seating arrangement for the 14 days we were in Arizona. In the past I had always used Alamo - in the future I'll use them again. Dollar Rent a Car are a shower and I would strongly suggest to anyone considering renting a car from them that they reconsider. The pressurised selling techniques for upgrades you don't want are disgraceful and it actually took me 50 minutes from entering the Rental Car Centre before we actually got in the car and drove off. I sincerely hope Dollar rot in hell.
