Pros: Very small, very versatile, IBM continues a trend in top-quality HD's
Cons: This little thing chews up batteries!
The Bottom Line: Definitely worth it if you want to store lots of photos with your digital cam, store mp3's, or files in general.

| andrechi's Full Review: IBM MicroDrive |
I got the IBM 1 GB Microdrive to use with my Canon G1 Digital camera. What a good decision. This thing is easier to use than I thought, and really is a delight.
The package brings with it the driver support, although most current computers running Windows will have the drivers necessary. It comes with it's PCMCIA adapter, so if you see anyone selling a drive without the adapter, they're selling you refurbished goods. Although there's nothing wrong with this, it's a bit unscrupulous if they don't explicitly advertise it as such...
Anyway, the thing is the size of a flashcard, but packs in lots of storage. Current flavors are 170 MB, 340 MB, 512 MB and 1 GB. I hear a 2GB is on the way soon, too.
A key benefit of this drive is the ease of use. I don't need special software, as it acts as a hard drive. I plug it into my computer and it recognizes it as another HD and I can freely move files to and from. I've even used my Microdrive as a handy way to move rather large files. I carry my camera anyway, and now I can just put key files I need (large presentations, databases, etc) in a folder. I can simply download / delete them later when I get to my destination using Windows Explorer.
The final thing that supports this as an investment is that it's gaining widespread support. MP3 players, in particular, are a handy place to use this. The warning, though, is that it will chew through batteries like there's no tomorrow, so you'd be well-served to see how the device you're eyeing performs with a Microdrive.
Other than that, this is everything I wanted it to be and more. It justifies the $360 I spent on it, since I can use it many different places.
