eiley123's Full Review: J. K. Rowling - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallo...
*********** THIS REVIEW HAS NO SPOILERS ***************
Well what am I going to do now I am Potterless. The final book in J K Rowlings magical saga came to end with the publication of the seventh book,'Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows'. I finished reading it recently and it was a fairly quick read for me these days . I suppose the fact I have been a little under the weather, in every sense of the word, gave me some extra time . However credit has to go to the author who created 607 pages of sheer excitement .
The seventh book carries on the tale, almost where the previous book,'The Half Blood Prince ' left off. Each book has become more intense and thrilling than the last. They have also become more of an older child or adults read . As always when I read the first couple of pages of the Harry Potter books I think it may be going to disappoint, or that I may not get into it easily. By the end of the first chapter, as usual, I was hooked and found it hard to put the book down. I have been known to look at the end of many books I have read before I have read many pages. However it was only towards the end I was tempted, but I knew I wouldnt. It would have just spoilt the conclusion of this tale. The twists and turns that Rowling leads us through need to be experienced in their correct order .
From the start you know there will be some surprises and possibly some parts you may guess. The suspense in this book is constant and the ending brilliant. As a set of childrens books I truly feel the seven Harry Potter books will have a place with classics such as The Chronicles of Narnia. Despite some critics reviewing J K Rowlings use of language harshly I feel the whole saga just has so much appeal and excitement for readers of almost any age.
This book will probably be a little hard for the quite young to read. There are too many adult words and a couple of expletives. However if young children start with the first Harry Potter book, and work their way up through all seven books, hopefully they will be a suitable age before they read the last Harry Potter offering .
HP and the Deathly Hallows has sufficient dark magic and tragedy to frighten some youngsters . I would think it will depend on the child . However even this 55 year old child shed a tear, or two and felt the odd surge of extreme excitement. If you have not read any other Harry Potter books you could probably read this as a stand alone book and enjoy the writing style and characters. However to really enjoy all the little nooks and crannies you really should have read the other Harry Potter books, or at least seen the films .
This book was supposed to retail at £17.99 I think but you can pick it up for much less. Asda had it on sale for £5 and Amazon for £8.99. It is published by Bloomsbury. There is a childrens as well as an adults edition. They look a little different but the actual pages, story and written word are the same .
At the beginning of the film ' The Wizard of Oz' the narrator says something like To all of you who believe , no matter what youre age, this film is for you . Ive probably got that wrong but you understand the sentiment . I feel this applies to Harry Potter. No matter what your age if you want to enjoy this book you will. Pick a copy up, start reading and lose yourself in another world of magic, fantasy and mystery where the thrills never end .
Recommended as a timeless classic of the future .
A thoroughly good read much enjoyed .
