| badragon's Full Review: Hampton Inn & Suites Myrtle Beach/Oceanfront |
My sister and I had to travel to Myrtle Beach to visit some relatives who were staying there. As it is a 4-5 hour drive we decided to stay overnight. The last time I was in town I noticed the Hampton Inn & Suites Myrtle Beach/Oceanfront and had planned to try it out, so this seemed like a good time. I made online reservations, which are easy with this chain, and we arrived the following afternoon. All I can say about the entire stay is "WOW!"
Rooms This hotel offers a variety of rooms, most with an ocean view. They range from one king bed with an easy chair and ottoman, TV, work desk, and night stand all the way to 2 bedroom suites with two bathrooms, queen bed and bunkbeds, king bed, full living room, full kitchen and balcony. All of the rooms are nicely decorated with water color prints and attractive carpeting and draperies.
We reserved an ocean front room with two queen beds. Upon arrival the room we had booked was not available and we were upgraded at no additional charge. The room we were given was a two bedroom suite with a balcony, a full kitchen and one bathroom. We both fell in love with the WaterPik© showerhead and the gorgeous beach.
Location The Hampton Inn & Suites Myrtle Beach/Oceanfront is right on the beach. It is convenient to many shopping centers and golf courses, as well as restaurants and fishing piers. It is a family- oriented hotel and does not accept guests under 25 unless they are with family.
Amenities Hampton Inns are mid-range, mid-priced hotels and I have always enjoyed their service. Even so, The Hampton Inn & Suites Myrtle Beach/Oceanfront is exceptional. In addition to the indoor and outdoor pools, whirlpool and lazy river, they also offer a children's playground, beach chairs and umbrellas and, of course, the beach.
The continental breakfast, available from 6:00 - 10:00 am, features a variety of fruit, juice, coffee, dry cereal, yogurt and pastry. They also offer at least one hot dish such as eggs, sausage, waffles, pancakes and biscuits. Coffee is available 24 hours and there were cookies on the service desk at night. There is also a 24 hour shop where you can purchase candy, ice cream souvenirs and cosmetics.
All rooms offer coffee maker, iron and ironing board, and movie channel, high speed computer access and complementary newspaper. Many rooms also have microwaves and the suites have full kitchens. There is a guest laundromat, a business center and a fitness center. Local phone calls are complementary and a bagged breakfast can be provided on weekdays.
Hampton Inns generally provide helpful friendly service and this one is no exception. Housekeeping was quick, unobtrusive and adequate. The front desk personnel were very helpful and efficient. We had one small maintenance problem and that was also solved quickly and with a smile.
Parking is inside the building. There are a number of spots reserved just outside the office for 15 minute check-in. They also had a number of handicapped spots convenient to the entrance and, when one was not available, they allowed parking in the check-in area.
The Rest I am hard pressed to find fault with this hotel. The room design could be better. The bathroom is directly across from the couch - not a great view. Some deep down cleaning could be done - a line of "gunk" on the refrigerator at the edge of the counter and a bit of mold on the very edges of the shower door. But there was really nothing serious and that sort of "missed dirt" can be found in most homes. The rooms were much cleaner than the majority of hotels I have stayed in.
We had a great time! The non-smoking rooms actually smelled clean. It appeared that the entire floor was non-smoking. The public areas were spotless most of the time and the hotel was reasonably quiet at night. Someone said hello each time we returned from outside and they even called to be sure we liked the room. Nope! Can't find anything worth complaining about - and, if you really knew me, that almost never happens. The Hampton Inn & Suites Myrtle Beach/Oceanfront is definitely a good place to stay.
