I purchased a Cingular Wireless package that included 350 free minutes plus rollover minutes. This package came with a Nokia 5190 cell phone. My phone stopped working within just a few short weeks of signing the 11 month contract. Customer Service informed me that Cingular's software was having problems with Nokia phones. There wasn't a problem with the actual Nokia phone, the problem was with Cingular's software. Customer Service was able to get my phone back in working order. Much to my dismay, the same problem happened again 2 days later. This went on for about 4 months. My phone would work fine for a while, then without warning, it would be dead. Each time, it took a 15-20 minute phone call with Customer Service to get my phone back in working order. I travel a good deal with my company and I had no trust in my cell phone service. I called Customer Service and explained this to a representative. She suggested I purchase a different brand phone since their software problem on affected Nokia phones. I was not happy with this suggestion as the Nokia phone was part of the package I purchased and the salesperson surely didn't tell me ahead of time that there was a software problem. Had I know that, I would have never purchased the plan. In the end, a supervisor handled my call and sent me an Ericsson A2218z replacement phone at no charge. I have not had any software problems with the Ericsson. However, I am disappointed at the frequent loss of a signal in my area.
My Cingular Wireless plan has had problems from the start. I am anxiously awaiting the end of my 11 month contract. I will definitely be changing providers before the end of the year.
