I have read many of the other reviews for this unit on this site and have to say that it looks like every user has had a unique experience with their Bosch Tankless heater. I bought mine off of a friend (no warranty or support from Bosch) and installed it myself, with help from my dad who was a pipefitter for 30 years. We ran a 1" gas line all the way to the unit, used copper pipes per the installation manual and used the AQ3 vent kit for hooking up the venting. I powered on the unit and was greeted by a error code. I called Bosch to find out what the code meant, and they told me that there was a common problem with an overheat fuse and actually sent me the new part (at no cost!) to replace in the heater. The repair took less than 15 minutes, and I have had hot water and a great experience ever since.
To make a long story short, I believe that the installation and location is everything with a tankless water heater, regardless of the manufacturer. The installation ended up costing about $500, and that is with doing all of the labor. The stainless steel vent kit, isolation valves, and pipe costs add up quickly. However, I replaced two 40 gallon tanks with this heater and the gas bill savings have already started to add up.
