With regard to specifics, the pot has a 3-ply base with aluminum sandwiched in between stainless. The first time I picked it up I knew it was cheap since this 16-quart model weighed as much as my 'real' 4-quart All Clad pot. There is an externally seen lip connecting the base to the side walls. The lack of aluminum core in the side means that at full heat, the upper portion of the walls barely warm up requiring you to use higher heat to keep the entire pot boiling and making a low simmer impossible! The lid is high quality and the handles have the All Clad name inscribed and also stay cool.

I should mention that this is still a decent pot, but if you planned to purchase a Ferrari and instead received a Honda with a Ferrari logo on it you would be rightly disappointed despite the intrinsic quality of the product. This practice by All Clad in my view cheapens the name and creates confusion among customers unsure whether they bought the 'real' thing or a cheap alternative...
