Avis Rent a Car Online Reservations: Easy as Peach Pie to Reserve a Car

I can't tell you when the last time I actually had to rent a car was. When I was still working, I always had an administrative assistant work on the travel arrangements for me, and most of the travel I've done since getting married and having children has been in our own car. It was with great relief that our recent experience with Avis Rent a Car Online Reservations went as smoothly as it did.

I'm going to be totally honest; I can't tell one car rental agency from another. I think that Avis is the one where the "experience" is supposed to be better, but they all seem pretty much the same. And a quick check of both Hotwire and Orbitz told me that for our rental requirements (with four kids, there's nothing smaller happening than a mini-van!), the difference between agencies was a few pennies a day, so I went with the rental agency that would contribute to our Upromise accounts for the kids, and that was Avis Rent a Car Online Reservations.
The site itself is very streamlined, considering the amount of information it contains and that they are asking customers to enter. There's a large box for entering your information for your rental needs, as well as links for current deals, special services Avis offers, and log-in for My Avis members. Top tabs allow you to switch between the reservation page, deals, a renter's guide, programs, Avis partners, and customer service.
Using the reservation screen, I was able to make our reservation (a minivan from about noon on Thursday until VERY early Sunday morning), as well as check pricing for a GPS unit (Avis will provide a Garmin unit for an additional daily fee) as well as for car seat/booster seat rental (at $10 a day per seat, it made WAY more sense to suffer the inconvenience of bringing our own!).

I have to say that our rental experience was very smooth, all things considered. I rented the minivan back in June for our anticipated October trip, and received an almost immediate email confirmation of our reservation. Although I was taught to confirm everything before traveling by my slightly OCD father, I didn't check a thing. In fact, the printer ran out of black ink just as I was printing our boarding passes and other relevant information, and I didn't even manage to get the confirmation number of our rental printed out.
However, upon arriving at the Atlanta Airport (Hartsfield), we had no trouble at all getting our contract printed up. The rate was exactly what was quoted when making our online reservation, and a pleasant surprise was that we were able to add on the "don't make us refill the gas tank" option at a very reasonable rate of $2.64 a gallon. For us Yankees, that was over 20 cents cheaper a gallon than we regularly pay, and was right around the average price we were seeing as we drove around Georgia.
Overall, our rental using the Avis Rent a Car Online Reservations went very smoothly, and the Upromise contribution is an added bonus. We'd definitely use the Avis Rent a Car Online Reservations again when we need to rent a car. We also paid the exact same rate we were quoted through Hotwire and didn't have to pay in advance as we would have had we not gone directly through the Avis Rent a Car Online Reservations site.
