Okay for chat room lurkers
Written: Sep 12 '01
Pros:Low price - suitable for basic "show me what you look like" application
Cons:Many software bugs - quick to shut a computer down
The Bottom Line: I do not recommend it unless you only want a cam to send low quality instant images. Think of it as a Polaroid photo.
This cam was an impulse purchase for me, thought it might be a nice toy to have. I was wrong.
The instructions which accompanied the cam were vague (at best) and very brief. On many issues the user is left to "figure it out for himself," especially things like: how to focus, how to adjust color, how to integrate with instant messaging platforms such as Paltalk or Yahoo.
The software is full of bugs and customer support from their website is next to nil. Currently I am able to take up to 5 still pictures and save them before I am given a general protection error and my computer either freezes or restarts. I have downloaded so-called upgrades from the website, but they haven't helped.
Video capture is quite jagged - no smooth video as you and I know it.
This would be an okay basic cam for taking and sending still pictures (small pictures, only about 300x300 pixels at best), especially if you hang out in chat rooms and want to swap photos with whomever you are chatting.
If you want a webcam for more than that, I'd look elsewhere.
