hey guy first off you did have classic albums on your list,i will give you that, but where is the notorious b.i.g. at? not only that but krsone is not the beginning of gangster rap! read a book on hip hop! get real info before you go making statements that arent true or right! where was big l? you sure did talk a lot about him,but not on the list either. i know you warned everyone that its "not the definitive top 50,but its pretty close" but its not pretty close...at all. i guess i can give you some props cause you know some stuff for a kid, but you have a lot to learn! i realize you are probably 21 by now so im hoping you have learned more since. take care and keep loving HIP HOP! Yea man, no complains on my behalf. If someone gave me only those 50 CD, and told me that was the whole what the whole Hip Hop genre was composed of, then I would be above and beyond happy to hear such masterpieces. Of course, there are some albums that should be there, but coming from my partner's experience on creating the "Top 50 songs of all time," it is extremely difficult to even fathom what would fit such a list. Love your reviews, this one's no different.

Peace,

You had some OUTSTANDING albums there but some are certainly missing. There's NO DOUBT in my mind SOI should be in the top ten. I don't care if the production isn't up to Primo standards, I personally like the production and couldn't imagine the album without it! Yeh, All We Got Iz Us should've been there. P.E should have been higher, so should Liquid Swords and Word...Life. And yes Kam-Neva Again and Lifestylez Ov Da Poor and Dangerous should've got a mention too!

Lol, just playing this is my opinions but I see this is EXTREMELY hard! Much like my quotes of all time, no one will agree! I don't think The Roots would've been in my top 50! Lol, just don't really like those guys! And yes, I agree, Cormega "The Realness" I would've included. But you have some great writing and it was great to read!

Thanks!

I wouldn't say as low as 3 stars, and it is something I listen to regularly, but I agree, it has no place on this list.

And that Mos Def album.. I'm still surprised you didn't like it much. I personally wanted to put it in the top 5. And that "New World Water" song is ill!

Ahh, c'mon guys, Ras Kass's "Soul On Ice" is calculated to death. I'd give it 3 or 4 stars and it's nothing I feel the need to hear again.

(Sigh)

Alright now that I gave my two cents there - great list Rob. You dared to give some newer-school stuff the nod over so-called "classics." Much respect for that. Though I cannot see what's so great about the Mos Def solo joint, I'm glad for everyone else that they can! Who'd think rapping about the water table could yield such good results? :o)

Take it easy and, again, good job.

Peace & Love

Haha, that's kinda strange actually, I always thought Things Fall Apart is the easiest one to listen to if you don't really listen to a lot of hip-hop.

Oh well, I think everyone has genres they're reluctant to expand their listening tastes into.. for me that'd be heavy metal. I'm sure one day you'll end up liking one of these albums a lot though.

Hahah yeah I know both of you like Soul On Ice a lot, and so do I, it's one of my favorite albums. But lyrics alone does not a good album make.

Now go out and BUY SOME HIP-HOP.

i know i should, but i won't... not just yet.

and just as a matter of interest, the only album i own from this full list is "things fall apart," and i've barely given it more than about three listens. lol. i'll try to crack it some day.

even though i'm not qualified to say: great list!

I gotta disagree, Soul On Ice would be a 4/5 to me even if it was only released as an acapella, the lyrics are just that amazing.. to me at least haha. Cant argue really though since my lazy asss hasnt done a list yet.

To me, Soul On Ice had some really boring songs/beats. It's a solid 4, 4.5 star album, but it's not something I'd put on a top 50 list. As for Heavy Mental, that's an honorable mention.

And the Infamous was there, on the second part I published.

You seemed to have all my personal favorites untill i figured you dont have the infamous, soul on ice or heavy mental. It's your choice but do you own those 3 albums and just dont like them much?

Anyways great conclusion...

finale to the list, Rob. I can't say I agree with most of your picks here - most of these would make my Top 20/30, for sure but not 10 - but you backed it up excellently and that's what opinions are all about after all. Good sh!t, excellent list.
