Travelodge

Pros:Cheaper then the average hotel/motel.
Cons:Poorly managed.
The Bottom Line: The suites sound too good to be true and they are. Be prepared to argue with management over everything.

I was visiting my girlfriend on July 7th, 2001 a few states away. She works in a hospital and according to the hotel/motel directory - there was a nearby hotel that offered jacuzzi suites. I decided to call and ask for the rate. It was around $80, which seemed like a good deal. When we arrived, the jacuzzi was basically a pump built into the bathroom tub. Not quite what I had in mind. I immediately went back to the clerk and told him I was unhappy with the room. He seemed sympathetic and told me he would credit my card, but he was having trouble doing it. I told him we trusted him and we left. Of course, when I got my next credit card statement - I had been billed for the room. I tried to resolve it with the manager, but was told about a 48 hour cancellation policy. She refused to refund my money, so I called the corporate line - and this is the point at which it turns into a joke. I was told that each hotel is individually owned and operated and that any dispute would have to be settled with the manager. It was the manager I was having the problem with. If I'd known that I couldn't get a refund, I would have sucked it up and stayed there, instead of paying for two rooms at two different hotels that night. I was flat out called a liar by the manager because "The clerk is very smart and knows how to give refunds. He does it all the time." Somehow I doubt it.
