Great essay- lots of info for people. My Platypus has a nozzle like the commenter mentioned. It has a piece that turns to let water out when you drink from the hose and then you turn the piece back and water can't come out. I really love it. jo

What a small world!
have a question about mouth controlled nozzles. My cousins had these bottles that would only give you water if you sucked on the nozzle. I thought it was a great design, because it's one less place for leakage. I don't know the name of that style of nozzle or who makes it
The mouth controlled nozzle I was talking about was the one that is connected to the house on the bladders - it's a fairly simple design and when you bite down on it, you open it up so water can flow through.
I too have seen them on smaller bottles here and there, but I'm not sure I've ever seen one in the store - so I'm not sure I can tell you were to find one.
