Product Review of the LG VX
The LG VX8300 camera flip cellular phone is available through Verizon Wireless. The phone is grey in color, designed to resemble a common modern day cellular phone. It is about 3x1½x½ in size. On the face of the phone are a 1.3 mega pixel mobile camera with flash, a small display screen, and three basic playback buttons for the mp3 player. The sides of the phone have inserts for the USB charger/connector, a pair of headphones/headset, and the Micro SD memory card. The sides also contain function buttons, a switch button for volume control, a button for the voice command prompt, and a button for the camera prompt. Extending from the top right hand corner of the phone is a ½ antenna. The phone also features two open air speakers located on either side of the phone. The rear of the phone has a slide on cover for easy access to the battery.
Inside the phone are its main functions. On the flip side is a display screen for general information. On the hand held side are a set of basic dial buttons as found on any telephone. The phone also has three menu buttons, one for the messaging information prompt (Message), one for the phones general features (Menu), and one for contact information (Contacts). Surrounding the Menu button is a direction-pad for easy navigation of the menu screen. The direction-pad also acts as a series of shortcut keys, a internet access prompt (top), a Verizon Wireless features/Get It Now prompt (right), a calendar prompt (bottom), and a media features/Get Pix & Flix prompt (left). In addition to the other buttons the phone also has a cancellation button (CLR) for easy clearing of mistaken tasks.
In general the VX8300 is easily functional. The menu features five submenus for contact information (Contacts), call information (Recent Calls), settings (Settings & Tools), Verizon Wireless features (Get It Now), and messaging information (Messaging). The voice command prompt on the side of the phone is used for performing hands free tasks, which offer more safety when driving. All of the features in the phones general menu are included in the voice command task. No setup is required. The voice commands are simple and easy to remember (See Owners Manual).
One feature that stands out is the camera. The camera is capable of taking both still and motion pictures in color. The video recorder also records sound. The pictures and sound are taken at fairly high quality for a cellular phone. The pictures can be saved to either the phones internal memory or the USB memory card. Saving pictures on the SD card rather than the phone is useful because the pictures can be taken off the card, downloaded onto a computer, and printed off for making a photo album.
Another great feature that the phone has is the mp3 player. Music can be downloaded through Verizon Wireless or via USB connection. In order to download music from a computer a Micro SD memory card and either a USB card reader or a USB 2.0 connector chord is needed. If headphones are desired over the open air speakers, either a pair of headphones with a phone size jack or blue tooth headphones are available. Blue tooth is convenient because blue tooth is wireless. All in all the memory card holds up to 1G of memory which translates to roughly two hundred songs give or take a few due to length. The 2G memory card is not compatible with the phone. The mp3 player also works with the phone flipped shut where as all the other tasks on the phone will cancel when the phone is shut. This is useful because the phone can be stowed away for convenience.
Overall the phone is great it gets a four out of five for its great features. The phone is a popular buy and I would recommend it to any of my friends. The down side to the phone is the cost of both the phone. The phone runs around $175.00, the headphones are $10.00, the blue tooth headphones are $300.00, the headset is $10.00, the blue tooth headset is $45.00, the USB connector chord is $10.00, the memory card is $60.00, and the card reader is $50.00. Prices vary depending on where the phone and accessories are bought, whether or not they were bought together, and for the headphones, memory card, and headset prices vary depending on brand and model.
