| sciobh's Full Review: HP Pavilion 6643 |
When my husband and I finally decided that it was time for us to purchase a computer we were almost overwhelmed by all the choices. The sales people in different stores were not all that helpful either. They were either not well trained to answer our questions, or kept wanting to show us the more expensive systems. We knew the amount of money that we could afford to spend and we were not going to spend more than that amount.
The price was the first thing that drew us to the HP, but we felt safe knowing the reputation that they company had.
There was a lot of software that came with the package. Some of the software was not useful to us, but it does include a variety of titles that should please everyone.
The system comes with the basic games in Windows, different software for going on-line, Quicken, Money, Mircosoft Word, and many others that I fail to recall.
When we got the large box home it was simple to set up. Plug it in, follow the prompts, load the drivers(if needed) for your printer and monitor, plug all the external devices, and we were on our way. The only difficulty we had was trying to run the printer using the USB cables, I eventually gave up and used standard printer cables.
With the system you get a basic mouse, keyboard, and speakers. The sound on the speakers is actually pretty good. We have changed the mouse and keyboard since we purchased it, and they were simple to change. The drivers installed easily. We only changed these 2 things because of personal needs and wants. The enclosed keyboard is not ergonomic, nor is the mouse. Those were the reasons we changed them.
The processing power is great and the GB for storage is astounding. Of course if you run large programs a lot the 15GB might not be enough. I know some games can use 1-3 GB on your system. It occasionally locks up, but most systems I have worked on have that happen.
The only thing that we are not the happiest with is the sound card. My husband uses a lot of music making programs and the package card does not have enough versatility to run all of them. It does run most though, so this is not that big a negative to us.
I would say that we made a pretty good choice in the sea of systems. Of course since computers are always changing there always seems to be the "I should have waited for that one" syndrome, but there is no way around that. I would recommend this system to anyone for a first time buyer or average user. It also works great with the internet.
