Dear metalluk: I thought LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL was a disingenuous, sentimental mess, but many disagree with me. Otherwise, I like your list a lot.

Regards.

I'm proud to say that I've seen nearly all of the films you've listed here, and, as usual, your expertise is nearly unassailable. And I'll be sure to check out the few films I've not yet seen. Like your reviews of all of the Best Foreign-Language Film Oscar winners, this is as much an invaluable resource as an enjoyable read.

The only omission I could think of offhand is Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke, which, while not quite as thematically rich as his Spirited Away, is still a film of remarkable depth and beauty.

Best,
Jonathan

I haven't seen all of these, but I have to agree that Life Is Beautiful and Horseman On The Roof are excellent films. Sheila
