As I've previously discussed in other hair care product reviews, using a conditioner after shampooing is not just a luxury for my long, thick in volume yet thinly textured locks but is, instead, an absolute requirement. So when I purchased the Clairol Herbal Essences Color Me Happy Shampoo awhile back, I also grabbed the matching conditioner since the duo was obviously designed to be used together. I've been regularly highlighting my hair every 3 months or so for several years now, so it needs lots of pampering to look its healthy best. I bought this Clairol Herbal Essences Color Me Happy Conditioner as the promise on the bottle stated I really shine with your color-treated hair. Since color treated hair often doesn't reflect light as well as natural, non-processed hair does, it can easily look dull and drab without some extra help. Read on to find out more about an inexpensive drugstore choice that's average at best when used as a daily conditioner on color treated hair prone to excess dryness.
~~~The Conditioner~~~
This Clairol Herbal Essences Color Me Happy Conditioner is probably a more than adequate choice for those with shorter, less damaged locks. But for a person with longer than shoulder length hair, finding a daily conditioner that provides extra moisture is a serious requirement. According to product details, this product is made With a Fusion of Acai Berries & Satin. You won't have a dull hair on your head. Thank me later. My shampoo and conditioner marriage will protect your color-treated hair with deep moisturizers and shine enhancers to prevent dryness and dullness. My happy coupling fused with acai berries & satin replenishes your hair's moisture to help keep it healthy, shiny and full of vitality. Continue your color happiness. Sounds impressive, huh? Yeah, I thought so, too. The conditioner itself is light pink in color and has a pleasantly fresh, fruity fragrance that this particular line of hair care products is famous for. But while there's no arguing that the yummy scent is quite addictive, the product is average in consistency and is more so on the runny side verses being more thick and creamy. So in my experience, when using this Clairol Herbal Essences Color Me Happy Conditioner while showering, I need a very generous palm-sized amount to adequately cover the length of my freshly shampooed hair.
~~~Price & Availability~~~
While the smaller 12 ounce (340g) hot pink colored plastic bottle of this Clairol Herbal Essences Color Me Happy Conditioner retails for right around $3 a bottle in most stores and online, the larger 23.7 ounce size is definitely more economical when purchased for $7.40 at drugstore.com. I always use more conditioner than I do shampoo no matter what brand or type, so buying the bigger bottles just make more sense as they last longer. Even though I tend to only wash my hair every other day, I could easily go through the standard size in only a few uses. While I think this conditioner is average at best, I do like the fun packaging as I think the curved bottles make the packaging that much more attractive. The conditioner bottle itself actually rests upside-down onto the green flip top lid so that when placed side by side to the shampoo bottle, the curves indent into one another and the different products actually do look married to one another. If you allow the flip-top lid to be upright, the print on the bottle is then inverted. So while the visual appeal this Clairol Herbal Essences Color Me Happy Conditioner is obvious, it's now very easy to judge a book by it's cover. ~~~Product Experience~~~
Standard directions for use just aren't enough for this Clairol Herbal Essences Color Me Happy Conditioner: use me: massage me in nicely. feel richer already. then rinse. hey, i see you smiling. This definitely reminds me of the image they were trying to create a few years back with their "orgasmic" experiences portrayed in their hair care commercials. Who could forget those, right? So after shampooing with the matching shampoo first, I always wring out the excess moisture before moving on to the second step: applying conditioner. It dispenses easy enough from the bottle, but the lotion type consistency is a bit on the thin side. I love the berry-like scent and the promise of healthy, shiny hair, so I generously coat my locks, paying special attention to the ends which tend to be the driest and most damaged. Steer clear of the roots when applying conditioner, especially if your hair tends to be on the oily side. After applying the conditioner, I then pile my hair upon my head for several minutes to give it time to "soak in" while I lather up my body. It easily rinses away without leaving a dulling residue behind and then the true test begins: the detangling process. My hair tangles if you just look at it, so many conditioners I've tried just don't pass the re-purchase test because this is where they fail. My hair feels soft enough, but there's definitely more tangles to tend with than usual. So while this Clairol Herbal Essences Color Me Happy Conditioner would most likely provide adequate conditioner for some, it lacks that extra pampering most people with color treated hair need in the first place. More moisture, please!

~~~Overall Recommendation~~~
Maybe it's just me and my "special" hair type, but I think hair care products designed for color treated hair should not only be gentle and non-stripping, but they've got to provide extra moisture as processing hair with color automatically makes it more prone to becoming dry and/or damaged. And while this Clairol Herbal Essences Color Me Happy Conditioner claims to contain deep moisturizers, they must have left them out of my bottle as it easily has the look and feel of a "cheap" conditioner. Still, for the inexpensive drugstore price, the scent is fantastic and those lucky enough to have hair requiring only light conditioning may find this hair care product to offer enough. My hair looked more dull than it did shiny, and the poor detangling this conditioner had to offer was a big disappointment. In conclusion, I will recommend this Clairol Herbal Essences Color Me Happy Conditioner despite it's limitations to anyone needing average, no-frills conditioning. Three stars for the scent, the price, and the cute packaging. Minus two for the lack of the more intense hydration color treated hair often requires. Good luck and happy online Beauty product shopping :-)
