| ifif1938's Full Review: Cascade Complete |
When the package arrived containing a big 75 ounce bottle of Cascade Complete Gel along with a bottle of Electrasol Advanced gel, I was surprised, to say the least. But upon reading the enclosed letter, asking me to compare the two, I thought this was an innovative and maybe risky idea by the manufacturer, they must be quite sure of their products...I was also pleased to find a pretty little dish towel enclosed and it actually matches my kitchen.
Back to the matter at hand...To tell you the truth, I have used both products in the passed, but different versions of them, in the powder form, for some reason I always liked powders but I am now a convert!
Opening the bottle
Cascade Complete Comes with a child safety lid, which is a good thing in a household with children but for me, with the touch of arthritis I have in my hands, makes it a bit difficult to open...first you have to squeeze then turn, but it's doable...the Electrasol just has a flip open lid..yes, easier to open and use, but then again, not a good thing for those with little kiddies around.
Scent
Electrasol states on the bottle that it has a Lemon scent, but to me I can't really smell Lemon, just a caustic unrecognisable scent, not too pleasing...Cascade doesn't mention any particular scent but whatever it is I like it much better, just a nice clean smell.
How it works
Both are gels and are easy to pour into the dishwashers cup dispensers...both are nice an thick...each one states to fill both cups completely...
Now, here is where the difference comes in.
I don't use my dishwasher every day, only perhaps twice a week since it's just my hubby and I at home now and we don't use that many dishes except on days either he or I cook...so, for the most part, my dishes sit for a while and you know what happens when that occurs, stuck on food! Even though I do a light rinse before loading in the machine.
I have a pretty good dishwasher, a Kitchenaid, and for the most part it does a good job whatever soap detergent I use, but some foods are just naturally hard to clean, eggs, cake batter, greasy foods, etc. So I decided to test the detergents on two loads of dishes that sat for a few days.
The Cascade Complete Did a fantastic job, I was amazed at how clean each dish came out, with no dried on leftovers on the plates. The Electrasol, did leave some traces of food behind on the small dishes and cups I had on the upper shelf of the dishwasher. I also found some dried leftover food on a few utensils.
I then decided to test the cleaning power of Cascade on the burners from my gas stove...Now these drive me crazy since I have a black oven and each burner has 3 parts which I think get dirty from the exhaust vent above them. When the wind blows outside I always find little specks on each piece. I also bake often and the heat that escapes from the oven creates a sticky situation on the range top and the burner pieces. So I put all of them in the dishwasher along with my sink savers, which I wash in the dishwasher often. I put my coffee stained coffee pot in and the bowl and baking pan I used for my last cake creation...What a joy it was when I emptied the dishwasher..everything was spotless! I was very impressed.
A week later I did the same thing with the Electrasol. This time the burner lids came out a bit spotty, you know everything shows on black, but the results were about the same on the other items.
One more test, this week...I decided to clean out one of my cabinets that hold my glasses, Cascade says there is a "shine shield" for glasses so I was curious...we put them on both the top and bottom of the washer, the plastic ones on top. The results were really impressive, not a spot on any of them. Even my pretty red glasses came out sparkling clean. Guess the "shine shield" really works
Then yesterday I decided to try the Electrasol on some more glasses that I have, some black and white wine glasses..since I baked a cake that day I put the bowl and cake pan in as well. I must say the Electrasol didn't do a bad job, just not as good as the Cascade, there were some spots on the black part of my glasses but not too terrible, and the cake pan had a little baked on spots.
Since both products state that it is not necessary to pre-wash, I didn't, though I usually do. I think it is probably necessary when using the Electrasol for anything that might be difficult to clean.
Warnings
Both bottles have warnings on them about keeping them out of children's reach and what to do in the event of ingesting any of the gel and what to do if any of it gets in your eyes or on your skin.
My Opinion
All in all, I definitely prefer the Cascade Complete...I also find I like the gel better than the powder I had used before, since the powder used to leave some residue on a few items that were on the top shelf of the dishwasher. The fresher cleaner scent is a plus too. So, the next time I need to buy dishwashing detergent, this will be the one I buy, though I doubt that will be for a while with these two big bottles that were so generously sent to me.
Many thanks to Hass MS&L for supplying me with these two products to use in exchange for my unbiased and honest opinion which is what I have attempted to do in this review
