| jnorlund's Full Review: Acer WarpLink Desktop Pack (54.AB782.001) Network... |
I have an emachines 333id desktop and a CompUSA Aeronote 366 laptop and tried to use this kit to network the two and share internet. First off, it operates on a radio frequency that is unique to the product type, so you may NOT use other wireless network interfaces with this! When I tried to set it up, it seemed to work on the desktop, but when I installed on the laptop, nothing! Besides the signal fading in and out, I could not get the two to communicate no matter how many combinations of IP address and DNS i switched to! What was supposed to be simple turned out very frustrating. It seems that the kit's cards have hardware conflicts on laptops.
In addition to all this, there is no more support for this product online and Acer itself says the company was a subcompany within theirs and have no contact info. You may see this as a cheap alternative to regular networking but don't waste the time or money on it trust me!
