| Freak369's Full Review: Pentel Razzle-Dazzle R.S.V.P. Retract. Ballpoint P... |
The Razzle Dazzle R.S.V.P. series of pens from Pentel was just the kick in the pants that the somewhat boring line needed. The pens and companion pencils are something that last longer than others, have smooth flowing ink and an almost indestructible barrel but until they released the Razzle Dazzle colors, most of what was available was a little on the tame side. These pens have a great see through design, rubber comfort grip and are refillable. One thing that you need to know about this pen before buying it, it comes with black ink so the color of the barrel is not an indicator of what it color ink it will write in. So far I have been really pleased with how the "pumpkin pen" has been working out for my notes and general writing.
Pentel Razzle Dazzle R.S.V.P. Retractable Pen
The R.S.V.P. line is a well made series of pens that are great for the office, student or soccer mom. The barrels are thicker than most comparable pens and last longer than most in its class. Even though the barrel is slightly thicker than most pens, you still get an extremely comfortable write from it. Part of that is because of the devoted robber comfort grip; this takes a lot of the pressure off your fingers when you are writing so you are less likely to get hand cramps and sore fingers. This makes it great for students that take a lot of notes or people who do a lot of writing. The perk of the retractable is that you never have to worry about losing the cap; likewise you do have to remember to retract the tip to avoid getting ink all over things in your pocket, backpack, briefcase or purse.
I listed "only comes in black ink" as a con to this because some people want blue, red or green ink choices. You can but refills in other colors but you are taking a chance that it won't fit so do this at your own risk. As far as the ink is concerned, it is dark and rich, dries fast and smudging is rare. This is a ballpoint so you dont have to worry about damaging a tip if you are someone that presses hard when they write. This is also great if you need to fill out papers in triplicate or use anything with a carbon layer. You can press hard enough on the tip to get a good impression on underlying layers without having to worry about an extra fine tip ripping up the top pages.
These sell for about $1.59 a piece so they are a couple cents more than the regular R.S.V.P. pens but to me, they are worth it. Being a fan of Halloween I had to grab a couple of these to use for the month of October but one of them has already gone missing. If barrel color means nothing to you and you just want a pen that is going to write as soon as you pick it up then stick with the regular R.S.V.P. pens; there is absolutely no difference between the regular ones and the Razzle Dazzle variety outside of the color of the barrel. Pental doesn't use an exact point size for the tip but it is classified as 'medium'; simply put, not too thin a line and not too thick.
If the orange color is for you dont worry, you can also get this in black, light blue, pink and black. I have several of these in both retractable and capped styles and they are great pens to write with and last an incredibly long time. The fact that they are also refillable ups the value of them; refills cost about .50 cents less than the actual pen but in most cases you are getting two refills per pack so you stand to save some money in the long run. That all depends on the condition of the barrel too; the comfort grip is well made so outside of it getting dirty it should give you any problems. Refills are sold at most office supply stores but you will want to make sure that you get the correct refill as the R.S.V.P. has a number of variations.
The Bottom Line
I am a pen snob; I will scour the office supply stores for things on sale but when I see something like this, I have to get it. Call it an impulse purchase or my love of Halloween, I just had to get this Razzle Dazzle color. It writes just as nicely as the other R.S.V.P. pens, has a great ink flow that never globs or leaves ink trails on paper and it looks pretty wicked. Sure, it might cost a little more but there are times when you have to indulge. Because the barrel is thick and strong you should be able to add refills to it a couple times before you need to toss it and get a new one. If the retractable version isn't to your liking you can also get this in the capped version but why risk losing it. Kudos for the cool orange color and smooth writing Pentel!
As always, thanks for the visit
