The Bottom Line . . . . . . . . .
.. This 'Hall of Fame' section is intended to be used for essays nominating ". . .the greatest writers, (those who) have made the most impact, or have inspired you . . ." ( 'Made the most impact...?' Who wrote that...? ) My nomination for inclusion in this 'Hall of Fame' is drdevience. Rate this 'off-topic' funsuckers. -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- I remember drdevience when she was just a pup here on the site, still wet behind the ears, piddling in the corner while ignoring her 'papers', learning the ropes like every other newbie here on the site. My first comment on something by her was in Aug 2002, a couple of months after she joined. I referenced an earlier book review there that apparently was 'typical newbie writing'. I see that review is now gone. Apparently someone 'moved her cheese' and she never found it again. The most surprising result of that comment was that she 'trusted me' that same day. That 'willingness to trust' is a trait that has served her well here on the site. She is often among the first few to trust a new user. Quickly scanning just now through the first page of her 'trusted' users finds 'more than a few' examples of just that phenomenon. I am sure many users have found that 'trust' just what they needed to 'hang in there' on Epinions. That willingness to trust has been amply returned by her fellow members. The cynical bastards among us will portray this trusting behavior ( in the real sense of that phrase! ) as 'gaming' or 'slutting' or some other nefarious abuse/misuse of the system. Screw them. A leisurely stroll through her list of those who trust her reads likes a 'Who's Who' of Epinions. Ranging from the craziest wackos to the most staid user. But it is not simply large or diverse lists of trusters or trustees that make drdevience worthy of mention for the 'Hall of Fame'. I believe she has always been a positive voice for what is 'right' and 'wrong' here on the site. She has never been afraid to stick up for what she sees as proper behavior and to challenge what she sees as . . .'bad' behavior. And she was like that before she had the 'power' of hundreds of trusters. That dogged determination, coupled with the power to bring diverse members together across many categories makes her worthy of recognition as a 'Hall of Fame' member. I truly believe drdevience 'does Epinions' to her own tune. That her tune has served her so well in her time here is a testimonial that others find value in her being here. There can be no higher praise than that for a member here at Epinions. ...tom... "Let others lead small lives, but not you. Let others argue over small things, but not you. Let others cry over small hurts, but not you. Let others leave their future in someone else's hands, but not you." —Jim Rohn -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- --- -- This simple essay, perhaps more praise than 'roast', is at the behest of iluvbirds who is celebrating ( albeit prematurely! ) her first anniversary here at Epinions. I am afraid that I have perhaps violated her rule banning "sweet, sappy, suck-up crap" but hell, I can live with that. Because I honestly don't present my thoughts for that purpose. ...tom... |
