Background:
I have been an on-line member for approx. 2 years now. I have been a store member for at least 10 years now.
On-line Experience:
For $19.25 per month (as of 10-28-07) I am on the 3 DVD plan.
The monthly fee is directly drawn from my bank account each month, you can use a credit card also. After signing up, you log-in to the "Blockbuster Online" website and create a list of DVD's you would like to have mailed to you.
After receiving your first 3 DVD's listed, you have multiple options:
Remember: shipping DVD's back is always free
You can return 1 DVD in the mail and get 1 return mailed to you. Or return 2 and get 2 back in the mail, or return all 3 and get 3 back in the mail.
With the 3 DVD plan you also choose from 2 free store rental coupons per month or 1 free store rental coupon per week. Whichever coupon choice you make, you must log-in on-line to print the coupons. These coupons are good for free game rentals also. You can not get game rental DVD's through the mail with this plan.
One other option you have which recently changed (please read entire paragraph), is the ability to take the DVD rentals you received through the mail and bring them to the store for free rental on a one for one basis. You are now limited to 5 free DVD rental/exchanges at the store per calendar month. Previously you could exchange all you want on an unlimited basis.
The Downside:
Blockbuster monthly plans have crept up once, so in the future they may do so again. Also, plans can be altered at any given time. Sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse.
Example (for the better):
Adding store exchanges for mailed DVD's. At first you could grab all your mailed DVD's, return them to the store and get a free rental in return.
Example (for the worse):
Approx 1 month ago Blockbuster decided to limit store exchanges to 5 per calendar month.
One other downside of DVD on-line rentals is very occasionally you will receive a broken DVD in the mail or the wrong DVD in the mail. In my case, I would say about 1 in 50 mailed will have a problem.
Reporting a problem mailing is very easy to correct, you can call Blockbuster support or better yet just log-in on-line and report the issue, it will be corrected.
Additional Tips:
Make sure to provide your correct email address to Blockbuster upon signing up. They will email you notifications of when your DVD's were received and when your newly requested ones will be mailed out. Also they will send you occasional emails about in store deals they are having.
Always keep your on-line DVD Queue full of title's. I usually keep at least 100 DVD's listed and they keep coming like clockwork without a hitch.
