Until I had a Metrokane Rabbit, I'd been struggling to open bottles of wine. I had a "Waiter's Friend", a cheap corkscrew which required a lot energy to use. Now I have a Rabbit.
Cost: This was a Christmas gift a couple of years ago so I don't know how much it cost.
Ease of Use: The rabbit's "ears are the handles which have rubber pads for comfort and grip. This a very smart design feature because the Rabbit has a smooth surface so without the rubber pads, it'd be hard to grip.
Unlike the Waiter's Friend, closing the Rabbit's "ears" pushes the corkscrew into the cork, right through the center. I can't stress the importance of getting the screw though the center.
Drawing back the upper "Ear" of the Rabbit will release the cork from the wine bottle but this requires more strength than the initial effort to screw the corkscrew in.
Repeating the first step will remove the cork from the corkscrew.
Better for: Those who've struggled with other corkscrews. e.g. not being able to manually screw the corkscrew into the exact center of wine cork.
This may be a minor detail but the Rabbit performs equally well with genuine corks as well as artificial "corks".
Drawbacks: The accompanying foil cutter works with inconsistent success. It was designed with one type of wine bottle in mind but these days, wine bottle necks are far from standard so it has taken me several attempts to cut round the foil sufficiently to remove the foil top to expose the top of the cork in the bottle. I've found applying a lot of pressure/grip round the foil cutter helps a lot.
To benefit from the Rabbit, it's best to have good arm strength and the ability to maintain a very tight grip (especially when using the foil cutter).
