| iceberg's Full Review: Clarion DXZ 815MP Camcorder |
The 815 is a marvelous first step. The simple fact that it plays MP3's is great. Add Clarion Quality on top of that and you are well on your way. The 815 has a Higher S/N Ratio on the CD than most other MP3 head units. It has power that seems like more than the 18W/chan that it boasts. I think I already blew the kenwood speakers. The 815 seems to have some problems with some VBR mp3's but in the manual it states that it only supports them at certain sample rates. I dont notice it too much but every now and thin you get the digital skip static blip. What is more noticable is the Limitation of the file names and number of files per directory. It supports straight ISO 9660 I and upto 16char names in ISO 9660 II. Only 150 files per dir and standard ISO limitations on dir depths (8 I think) If you organize your CD's for this you will be in heaven. It's also far cheaper than the Alpine of Panisonic. It's specs are a bit better than Kenwood and are superior to Awia and Rockfor Fosgate units with mp3 capabilities. Over all the only mistake Clarion made was not supporting ID3 Tags. another benifit is the removable face is aluminum not plastic and is less prone to damage, especialy when properly stored in the included case. If mp3's are important then get this unit, if not then yes Clarion does make some slightly better units.
