this pc comes with windows vista, a choice of processors, the one I am using has a dual core athlon 64 3800 which I must say is very fast. My computer, under heavy usage has never lagged or froze up on me in the three months that I have had it. I cannot fully explain clock speeds and such but I can tell you that I am an impatient person when it comes to computers. My PC better preform fast or else. My dell notebook has not let me down. you cannot tell the difference between this laptop and a desktop.
my unit comes with a 80GB harddrive and 2 gig of memory. I believe the standard for memory is 1Gig but with vista I reccomend 2 for better preformance.
I have the clear screen (15 inch wide) which delivers sharp images. there is no blur or haze. colors are vivid which means that they are bright and reveal every availale detail in 100% clarity. the brightness adjusts to be something that can be seen in full sunlight, a plus for any electronic device. the wide screen is very helpful if you want to use the windows sidebar feature found in vista.
they keyboard functions are easy to use. the keyboard feels comfortable (for a laptop keyboard) the keys are slighty springy which is comfortable to use on the fingers. all of the alternate function keys are easy to use and activate.
the cardreader is MMC SD and SDIO
the mouse touch pad is sensative and takes your icon where you want it to go. the scroll functions (located on the right and bottom side) are very easy to use and will scroll down and across.
there is a built in wireless card that is both 802.11b AND 802.11G. I have been able to park my car across the road from a restaurant that offers free wifi and from across a two lane road with a middle lane, I have gotten signal enough to suft the net. this is a powerful antennae that will get great reception on a wireless network.
it also has a DVD burner, a wireless card reader, four USB ports, a PCMCIA slot, a VGA slot for plugging in a monitor or projector, a phone modem slot and an ethernet adaptor slot.
The device is well put together. all of the parts function with high quality. they do not conflict or intefere with one anothers preformance. this device functions just as well as a mid preformance desktop.
the battery life from a dell laptop is wonderful. with a 6 cell battery (BTW dell batteries have a separate function on the battery itself that allows you to see the amount of power left) ... I get a good 2 hours of moderate use out of a full charge.
the battery also charges quickly.
there are four speakers to give you a sound that is slightly above typical for a laptop. the parts inside are also encased in some kind of special encasement that allows the device to survive an accidental drop or two.
the best part of this device is the price. My device cost me a mere 450.00 including tax (I got mine refurbished) I believe a new one can be found as low as 700. The refurbished come with the same tech support and warranty that the new laptops have. (1 year with option to purchase addional time at any time).
I have been using dell computers for many years and have found the support to be wonderful. though it is less today than it was five years ago. they will help you through any crisis you may have with superior knowledge. I only buy dell becasue of the good help and happiness of using their devices.
