I'm guessing that you are talking about none other than Gary Radnich. Funny, I worked at KNBR while in college. If I would've stayed in radio, I would've never found Epinions.

especially re: Billie Jean. The kids I work with LOVE that song, and I have to admit that it makes (to quote a well-known KNBR talk-show host) this middle aged white man dance and lip sync like nothing else.

Thanks for the comment man. I guess I get zero points for being topical but I didn't want to beat his personal troubles into the ground.

Hey roheblius, i really enjoyed reading your review and it's refreshing to see an MJ review that doesnt contain any reference to his personal life.

Also, nice job for not including 'Beat it' i think its one of the most overrated records of his career.

PYT is simply a fun dance song. It is definitely a good song, but They Don't Care About Us means so much more than chipmunks singing about a pretty young thing. But I do like PYT, even with the chipmunks.

My love for ostriches shouldn't have anything to do with Michael Jackson.

...could you actually do a Michael Jackson compilation? Do you love ostracism?

Smooth Criminal is one of my favorite songs (by both MJ and AAF). Shut up.

PYT was on the long list. I think I had some 43 songs on the long list. But just like Diana DeGarmo, it was eliminated from the competition.

Wait a second. You and Mike are friends. Mike is the biggest Michael Jackson fan on God's green earth. And you don't have any MJ stuff? That's more odd than my wife thinking Liberian Girl was Librarian Girl.

on your top 5 MJ hits, though I might do it slightly in a different order. I do like the SWV cover of Human Nature. Also, what top MJ list is complete without PYT?

The weirdest thing happened on one of my last days in Virginia.. I heard this song by Michael Jackson that I hadn't heard in years and years, then a few minutes later, that same damn song comes on AGAIN on a different station. I didn't know what it was called, but I knew I absolutely LOVED the deluge of synthesizers at the end...

Course I didn't much bother to look it up until I saw this list and it crossed my mind "Hey, maybe that song is on here." Then you said it, why does he do me that way? So that's "Human Nature", never knew that! I've got to get on the stick and get these albums, I tell ya...

The Jackson 5 stuff was great. I actually have an anthology (like 4 discs) of J5 stuff. I might go there one day. But I also like the stuff he did with his brothers as the Jacksons. There's great music there as well. You could see my dilemma on which version of MJ I was going to choose.

Thanks.

Thanks man. On The Line reasoning: A) it was a hidden track for so long so it gets points for being discovered (and I also get points for discovering it), B) is a meaningful uplifting MJ track that I don't find to be corny like Keep The Faithand C) is good enough to be heard.

That line about your uncle doing the leg kick is great. I know a couple of my cousins can still moon walk and pop lock with the best of them.

Quick video story: When the Thriller video came on, I was at my cousins house and he grabbed his dirt bike and put me on the handle bars and said we were going to his friend's house to watch a music video. And MTV was huge at this time. Not everyone had it and my cousin especially did not so he played it up huge. I think I had MTV at the time, but had not seen Thriller. And MTV would schedule the video, so it wasn't just this lucky thing. We went and watched the video after he did anything and everything to do jumps off his dirt bike while I was on the top. I remember this whole thing like it was a short episode of my life and one of the things I always remember doing with my cousin. And then of course, the video was classic.

While I like many of these, I'd have to go back to the Jackson 5 days myself..

But that's prolly mainly nostalgia. The man can sing and dance, that's a fact.

Excellent list-pretty much what I expected it to be, although there are definitely one or two songs here I just can't get with (chief among them being "On The Line"). One of my favorite memories of this summer is being at my family reunion in June and seeing my square-*ss uncle doing the leg kick and spin to "Billie Jean"-you could be the most rhythmless person in the world and when that song comes on, it's like some invisible force commands you to move.

And your wife thinking "Liberian Girl" was "Librarian Girl" is priceless!!

Excellent job brother,

Mike
