let me start by stating i am not affiliated with american water heater corp at all...however i am a master plumber and have been installing this heater for years..i have had one call back ever and the warranty procedure was painless..back in 2002 is when the flameguard laws were biginning..this was a new law requiring these tanks to have a sealed combustion chamber to prevent fires in the event of a flammable liquid being spilled near the heater...the manufactuers were rushed to implement the new changes....the problems you describe were not local to american heaters ..all the manufactuers had growing pains...but in the end it sounds like they took care of you.....i for one believe in the product
