Pros:Room capacity & space, breakfast, indoor pool, refrigerator
Cons:Air traffic noise
The Bottom Line: A good choice for business travelers or families staying in the Buffalo area, especially if wanting to stay near the airport or eastern suburbs.
Our third time staying in the Comfort Suites Buffalo Airport location was in August 2001. There were 2 adults & 3 children in our party, ages 8, 5, & 3. We requested a non-smoking room with 2 double beds. We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon & left Friday morning so slept at this motel for 3 nights. The motel was completed in about 1990 or 1991 so it is a bit more than 10 years old. On-site parking is sufficient but I think it could use a little bit more lighting.
Entering the Comfort Suites you see to the left a small but adequate dining area where breakfast is served. To the immediate right is the front desk & ahead of you is a small but, again, adequate lounge area. On the wall of the lounge area are 2 windows that provide viewing of their indoor pool. The motel is nicely decorated – nothing elaborate, tacky, or out of date.
Check-in was quick & easy. We had made reservations through the Comfort website & all of our information was in order at check-in. I’d say total check-in time was 5 minutes or less & there was no wait. We were handed 2 room “keys” (the credit card-type key that is electronically read when you slip it into the “keyhole” of your room) & given incorrect directions to our room. Luckily signs are posted throughout providing easy directions to rooms so we caught the desk person’s error before going out of our way with our luggage in tow. The front desk person at check-in was friendly but not overly so.
As we walked to our room I noticed that the stairway needed a good vacuuming. The rest of the hallways were acceptably clean. Our room was neat & pretty clean. I did notice on the second day of our stay that there was a lot of “stuff” that needed to be vacuumed from under the beds. I guess room service here needs to hone their vacuuming skills! There was also a slight odor in our room when we first entered – nothing too bad but noticeable.
The rooms at the Comfort Suites are perfect for our family of five. There are 2 double beds as well as a small sofa that pulls out into a bed for our extra person. Some rooms have a king instead of the 2 doubles. For those who don’t need the extra sleep space & can leave the sofa bed as a sofa there would be a nice sitting area in the room, also with a coffee table & a sitting table with 2 nice chairs. Also standard at this location’s Comfort Suites are a small microwave, coffeepot, ironing board & iron, hair dryer, refrigerator, 2 telephones, & the usual armoire, television, & dresser in each room. All of the amenities in the room were in working condition & the beds, linens, towels, etc. were clean; beds & pillows were comfortable. The faucet at the bathroom sink showed signs of aging & I think it should have been replaced but that was all.
On-site at the Buffalo Comfort Suites are a small fitness center that’s open 24 hours a day (the weight apparatus could use some maintenance), a one-washer & dryer laundry, rooms with whirlpools, an indoor swimming pool (it’s heated but my husband said the water was a bit chilly) & whirlpool, small conference rooms, & handicap-accessible rooms. The motel also provides free 24-hour shuttle service within a 5-mile radius as well as valet service. Ice machines are located at the end of each hallway. Not to be forgotten is their great continental breakfast with juices, milk, doughnuts, bagels, toast, french toast, muffins, cereals, fruit, yogurt, etc. Our first morning they even provided pre-measured cups of waffle batter & a waffle iron in order to make your own fresh waffles. They were delicious! There were no meat selections but I didn’t hear anyone complaining. A national newspaper is left outside of each bedroom every morning.
Checkout was as quick & simple as check-in. We had provided our credit card at check-in so all that was needed was for me to sign my credit receipt & hand in our keys. I had to wait for one person before I was attended to. The desk person was friendlier at checkout than check-in. No one we encountered here could be considered unhelpful or unfriendly but I didn’t encounter anyone worth nominating for the “Friendliest Employee Award” either.
The Comfort Suites - Buffalo is located at 901 Dick Road in the town of Cheektowaga, a suburb east of Buffalo. It is just around the corner from the airport so, yes, you WILL hear the sounds of jets taking off & landing! This had never affected me during our prior stays but the noise did wake me each morning at about 6:30 or so on this visit. The second & third mornings I was easily able to fall back to sleep even with the noise. This location is also very close to an AmTrak station … about a mile down the road. The city of Buffalo is about a 10 to 15-minute ride & Niagara Falls & Canada are about a 20-minute ride away.
Except for the air traffic I really do recommend this establishment. I have noticed an ever so slight decline in the facilities since the first two times we visited the Comfort Suites but it is still in great condition & meets almost all of my requirements for a comfortable overnight stay … & I’m easily squeamish when it comes to motels & hotels.
