The Bottom Line The Bottom Line hopes you enjoy this.
Extra points to people who can guess where that quote in my title is from. While listening to the song that's quoted in the title, I decided to do Justin's "Your Life's Soundtrack" writeoff. I figured that my musical interests, delving mainly into the soul and passion of classic R&B music, should provide a cursory interest to those exhausted eyes that find themselves wearily reading this piece. I also figured that this should be fun and entertaining to do, figuring out different songs and tracks that would accurately represent different parts of my life. Anyway, enough with this introduction, let the soundtrack begin! (I'll include minor observations with some selections) Opening Credits: Issac Hayes - "Theme From Shaft" I'm sure all of you can recognize when this song comes on. From the classic hi-hat opening that slowly becomes accompanied with doo-wop synthesizers, this song is the perfect opening for my life. Although, I may not be a bad mutha - yes, I know most of y'all are telling me to "shut yo mouth" but I'm only talking about me - I'm sure I'm the brother "who won't cop out when there's danger all about." Waking Up: Parliament - "Mothership Connection (Star Child)" For me, there's nothing like waking up to funk in the morning, especially by these folks. One of my favorite Parliament tracks, I can't help but feel energized and refreshed when I hear this song. It may not have the hugely bombastic quality of other P-Funk tracks, but I always make sure to listen to this song before I start my day. Average Day: Ice Cube - "Today Was a Good Day" Even though this may not have been O'Shea's average day, the laid-back, positive (as compared to Cube's regular life) ambiance that resonates from this track represents the lackadaisical nature of everyday life for me (during the summer that is). First Date: Luther Vandross - "Take You Out" Before Jigga (with the help of the 'Tunes) bastardized this track, this was a simple song that described what many lovebirds may feel when they want to go out with someone that may be unattainable. lol If only love was that easy.... Falling In Love: The O'Jays - "Stairway to Heaven" I've said enough about this song. Let's keep going "step by step." Love Scene: Isley Brothers - "Between the Sheets" Fight Scene: James Brown - "The Payback" Breaking Up: Isley Brothers - "Choosey Lover" It's the story of a guy who can't believe his girl is cheating on him. Instead, he says it's just her making a choice and that he was glad that she chose him for a while. Getting Back Together: Luther Vandross feat. Bob James - "I'm Only Human" Secret Love: Luther Vandross - "Secret Love" Life's OK: Earth, Wind, & Fire - "Sun Goddess" Mental Breakdown: The Roots - "Water" (the last 7 or so minutes of the song) Driving: Nas - "N.Y. State of Mind" (in the morning); Norman Brown - "Third World" (at night) Learning a Lesson: OutKast - "Aquemini" Deep Thought: Art of Noise - "Moments in Love" Flashback: Nas - "Memory Lane (Sittin' in Da Park)" Partying: Digital Underground - "The Humpty Dance" Happy Dance: Funkadelic - "(Not Just) Knee Deep" Regretting: Arthur Prysock - "You Did Not Come" Long Night Alone: Miles Davis - "Blue in Green" If any of you have heard this song, you'll know that it's an obvious choice. Death Scene: Bone Thugs N' Harmony - "The Crossroads" Closing Credits Mos Def - "Umi Says" Well, I hope y'all enjoyed reading about what songs would be on a soundtrack to my life. All of these should change since after all, I haven't even lived half my life yet. Anyway, this is your guide, signing off. |
