I actually believe these films aren't doing well is because people are sick and tired of watching stories about the war. I also feel that this film does a decent job presenting both viewpoints fairly well. Although I disagree with the senator's point of view in the film, he's not presented as a fire-breathing monster. Also, the two young soldiers are shown to be idealistic and willing to fight for their country. My personal belief aside (that the war is a huge mistake), I have to admire the young people who have sacrificed the most while our aging leaders send them to harm's way.

I hope this doesn't come off... I don't know, I'm not trying to take a swipe at you. The reason that these movies have been doing so-so at best is simple. Most Americans are tired of the liberal, PC, twisted logic of the media, and the film industry. I could go into some long thing, but I won't, that's the short version.
I don't need anyone twisting, changing, or distorting reality to push some agenda, whatever that may be. Sometimes the movie industry and the media just leave things completely out of movies like this because, well they could offend someone. When someone decides to really put the real deal up on the big screen, I'll be there.
The movie business is a little too Al Gore and Michael Moore, and not enough Michael Savage or Ann Coulter.

Thanks to you I'm now leaning for going to see it again (this thing's been getting 2 stars from the papers here... but then I live in a Republican town. They keep calling the film condescending and ivory-tower-ish).
Cheerio,

Think I'll change the title to reflect that the film shows who is to blame.

Have yet to see this (although Cruise in any movie is always a strong deterrent for me) and any of the other Middle East/Iraq War-themed films showing today. I wonder if it's also (what I perceive to be) the heavy-handedness of the films in question that's keeping viewers away. I agree with many of the points they make, but too many polemical films might be too much for even those who concur with their viewpoints.
Nevertheless, will try to catch some of these soon. Thanks for a fine review, once again!

PS. I was puzzled by your title - the movie itself shares the blame for the mess we're in ? - or do you mean that the movie shows the entities who should really share the blame...?

...for your fine review of this film. It's one of the ones on my list to see, and I was glad to read your review.
