Whoa, my life has a Soundtrack?

The Bottom Line These are the songs that drive the plot of my life...

I couldn't possibly pass up the chance to set a soundtrack for my life, and now our very own whisperscream has created an opportunity to do just that.

The premise is simple, really. You are given several moods, or points in a typical movie, and you pick a song for them. Not as easy as it sounds, my friend!

So, shall we?

Opening Credits: "Never Ending Story" by Limahl
I have no idea why people hate this song. It's harmonious 80's sugar pop at its finest, with a great beat and a power drill bassline.

Waking Up: "Clarity" by John Mayer
The mixture of handclaps and meandering piano creates a nice breezy morning atmosphere. It makes me wanna go outside and just lay in the grass.

Average Day: "Imagine" by John Lennon
You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. My whole day consists of wandering around in a sort of piano-induced stupor, too dazed to partake in engaging conversations most of the time.

First Date: "I Saw The Light" by Todd Rundgren
You may notice that several of my Top 100 Love Songs ended up here too. To me, this song epitomes puppy love, when it's all new and you see that "light" in someone's eyes, all the while wondering if they see it in yours.

Falling In Love: "Be Mine" by R.E.M.
It's bluesy, it's anthemic, it's hazy. And it's you and me.

Love Scene: "Chariots of Fire" by Vangelis
Absolutely dazzling. Nothing more can be said.

Fight Scene: "Monkey Wrench" by Foo Fighters
No need to trip.

Breaking Up: "Against All Odds" by Phil Collins
How can you just walk away from me, when all I can do is watch you leave?

Getting Back Together: "Never Tear Us Apart" by INXS
This synth-driven 80's monster is one of the greatest love songs ever, and if these lyrics don't convince you that he's for real, very few things could: "We could live for a thousand years, but if I hurt you, I'd make wine from your tears."

Secret Love: "She's Like The Wind" by Patrick Swayze
Secret love ain't no happy affair, but if a song can capture that feeling and make you feel less alone in your unrequited love, that's definitely worth something.

Life's OK: "I'm OK" by Styx
May be a little cheesy, but by the time you've heard its excellent album, you'll be singing right along within a few listens.

Mental Breakdown: "Drive In, Drive Out" by DMB
Leave it to Dave Matthews to cover all the moods; in fact, I could just about pick a Dave Matthews Band song for every single one of these moods if I wanted to. The tempo changes and relentless brass section keep this song as insane as possible, all the way to the finish line.

Be Strong: "You Gotta Be" by Des'ree
I kinda snuck this category in because I thought it belonged. And I couldn't pass up a chance to give Des'ree her just shout-out.

Driving: "The Way" by Fastball
This is probably the hardest pick of them all, 'cause there are tons of songs that enhance the whole driving experience. But "The Way" is always the first song that comes to mind, and the first time I heard it, I was in the car. This song is always better from the vantage point of behind the wheel, and it rocks the pop fizz with a wicked cup of coo-coo.

Learning A Lesson: "Cat's In The Cradle" by Harry Chapin
The more I hear this song, the more I love it. It tells a great story about father/son relationships, and how time can be a valuable thing and ya watch it fly by as the pendulum swings.

Deep Thought: "State Of Grace" by Seal
The ultimate "introspective" song with a brooding melody that all too briefly turns harmonious.

Flashback: "Angel Aquarius" by Fifth Dimension
Something about this song just blinds me. When it comes on, there is nothing else in the world.

Party Song: "One Trick Pony" by Nelly Furtado
If there is a catchier song in existence right now, I'd love to know what it is.

Happy Dance: "And We Danced" by The Hooters
The happiest dance would have to be with someone. This song has enough energy that I'd dance myself straight into a heart attack if I had to.

Regretful: "Human Nature" by Michael Jackson
The universal question, "Why?" The synthesizers that end this song out are spectacular.

Long Night Alone: "Wishing You Were Here" by Chicago
Featuring the Beach Boys on harmony, this is a brilliantly morose display of the bluest beauty.

Death Scene: "These Dreams" by Heart
The sweetest song is silence that I've ever heard.

Closing Scene: "Your Life Is Now" by John Mellencamp
You wanna leave people with the sense that when they leave that movie, they can go anywhere and do anything, much like the characters. Perfect song to foot the bill if I do say so myself.

And that's my soundtrack, most of which can be found on other soundtracks to real movies. Maybe someday, my life will become a movie, but until then, gotta keep running!

Now, back to your regularly scheduled life.
