Gifts for those Who Need Nothing and Have Everything
Nov 26, 2007 (Updated Nov 26, 2007)
Some traditions never change; they just get more interesting and more expensive. The media refers to Friday after Thanksgiving as Black Friday. As a kid it was the day our mailbox overflowed with catalogues tempting us with Christmas ideas, things Santa could bring!
Back when I was a child Sears and Pennys, as well as a national auto supply store, published TOY catalogues for Christmas, all arriving on Friday after Thanksgiving. Id worry the pages down to nothing dreaming of Christmas morning. Yes, Id even use them as a guide for selecting gifts in my annual North Pole letter. If nothing else these memories explain a lot of adult habits that I share with many friends. Lets Go Shopping!
Today much of that childlike enthusiasm has changed, especially since its my wallet and bank account that supports the stores and marketing specialists. However, after Thanksgiving one of my two favorite catalogs appears in the mailbox, and I spend more time than necessary wandering through the pages. Rather than writing a letter to the North Pole, I send my charge card number to their online presence. The catalog is Wireless and the online store is thewirelesscatalog.com. This is where I shop for special gifts for people who need nothing and have everything.
Wireless Does Not Mean Electronic Supplies
Wireless is where I used to shop for items promoted on NPR, but it is much more than that. Their categories include books, audio, video, jewelry, T-shirts, sweatshirts, collectibles, as well as stuff for children, home, garden, sports, and leisure.
Their T-shirts and sweatshirts are fun and high-quality. Expect off-the-wall statements like: Warning Explosive Political Opinions, Musicians Duet Better, and Disposable thumbs make me specialer than most aminals.
Wireless offers music and DVD collections, but not whats found in local stores. This years catalog includes Dick Clarks American Bandstand 50th Anniversary Collection (12-CD box set), The Complete Monty Pythons Flying Circus, Readers Digest Funniest Moments of Comedy DVDs, A Prairie Home Companion Great Moments DVD Set, The War: An Intimate History, 1941-1945, and so much more. Many of these have been seen on fundraising drives for NPR and Public Television stations.
Ill shop here for special pieces of jewelry, designer toilet paper, or a personalized branding iron. Sentimental signs, both primitive and retro, help us express our thoughts: Unsupervised children will be given sugar and a free puppy or Mood swings available every 10 minutes.
Over the Years
My sister has received a sweatshirt, Sisters: Emotional Tech Support. This year someones getting a CD from the Car Talk show. Last year I sent someone the sign, Weve Left All our Troubles Behind. Personally, Im hoping for the Nature Rocks T-shirt in their outlet store.
Navigating is Easy
The Homepage identifies the above categories, but also new arrivals, customer favorites, and outlet store. You can view the catalog. This is all on a sidebar and across the top are selections for homepage, your account, wishlist, order status, xpress order, view cart and checkout. You can search by item number (from catalog) or keyword. You can establish an account for login and, yes, they will send announcements but you can request that they dont. They additionally offer 24-hour ordering at 1-800-669-9999. Some items seem expensive, and if you search you can probably find better prices, but I enjoy online stores that provide a large selection of interesting, thoughtful gifts for special people.
You can calculate shipping and taxes before proceeding to finalize your order. Determine your shipping method and if you have a coupon code this is where its entered. If its a gift include a message free of charge. They accept MC, Visa, Discover and American Express and always confirm in an email message.
In the years Ive been ordering from thewirelesscatalog there has never been a problem, requests have been received in a timely manner, and as a happy customer I return annually to their online store. Enjoy.
