dnhoshor's Full Review: Brother HL-2070N Laser Printer
I've been using the Brother HL-2070N laser printer for about a year now, and it's a real workhorse. It's able to print about twenty pages per minute, and it's cheap to operate. I use it with both my Apple MacBook and Windows XP computer and the output looks fine. The thing I like most about using a laser printer is that unlike inkjet printers, a laser has no ink to dry up, no printheads to clog, and a cartridge is good for thousands of pages. Once you've used a laser printer, you'll have little use for an inkjet printer for day to day printing.
The network interface on the Brother HL-2070N is really easy to use. You can access the printer through a web browser and it's very convenient. I attached mine to my wireless router, so it's accessible to all my computers wirelessly, but it also has USB and parallel interfaces, so you can use it with almost any computer. The Brother HL-2070N can emulate an HP Laser printer, IBM Proprinter XL, and Epson FX-850, so it's unlikely that you'll find a computer that's unable to use the printer. I run Linux from time to time, and it has no problem with the Brother HL-2070N either.
The Brother HL-2070N has an internal paper tray that holds about 250 sheets of paper, so you won't have to add paper too often. You can also sheet feed card stock and envelopes, but you can only feed the sheets one at a time. If you need to use alternate papers frequently, the Brother HL-2070N may not be your best choice.
Like most printers, it comes with a starter cartridge that's not as large as a standard cartridge. The starter cartridge is good for printing about 1500 pages, and it lasted about a year for my home use. Recently I refilled the cartridge myself using toner and reset gear I purchased on eBay. It cost less than twenty dollars as compared to about sixty dollars for a new Brother cartridge, and wasn't difficult to do. You may want to give it a try. Just be careful because the toner can be very messy if you spill it.
