Château Beau-Séjour Bécot, 2000 -- with a tip of the cap to Ermitaño

The 2000 is good... but consider a stab at the 1998 Château Beau-Séjour Bécot... you still may be able to find some bargains.

Thank you for the effort in making some outstanding recommendations. I'll keep an eye out for the Château Canon-La-Gaffelière. I can get my hands on the 2003, but the earlier vintages may be a challenge to locate. I'll look around!

Thanks,

...though I did nothing to deserve thanks. The review was superior as always. I'm glad you enjoyed the wine. I'll try to get my hands on some of the '98 as well. The '93 is still (surprisingly) drinking well, as are the '96 and '97.

Canon la Gaffeliere 1996 and 1999 are available in your neck of the woods, around US$50, give or take US$5. Pretty good stuff too.

As for my infrequent Napa forays, I tried a couple of vintages from Diamond Creek: 2000 (Red Rock) and 2001 (Volcanic Hill), as I recall.

Absolutely hedonistic, extremely good even in its infancy, absolutely, but quite expensive. One could get a '99 Cheval Blanc (every bit as fragrant but with a touch more elegance) for around the same price.
