Paprika is a must see to those who like their brain slightly twisted with an Anime viewing. It is created by the same man who was responsible for Paranoia Agent (also a very quality piece). The plot is sometimes unfathomable but the trip is highly worth it. The warning of technology being capable to create a dangerous dystopia (while not being the most original idea) is delivered in a very entertaining manner. The characters, though they are somewhat simple are still capable of holding interest throughout the flick. The dialog is captivating. There is a high level of wondrous creepiness lurking throughout. The art is top notch, the coloration is astounding as is the attention to detail.
This movie is an example of what animation should be used for. It creates a world that the audience can escape into without shooting for an impossible amount of realism. It is the anti-Beowulf.
Seeing this movie makes me VERY interested in continuing to check out the creator's work. Even at his lowest points he is better than a lot of the others out there. It is apparent that he cares a great deal about everything he brings to the market. I know I have to see Perfect Blue.
