I have seen them all. I didn't care for the God father films at all. As for the others they were good. Different strokes for different folks bud.

It is damn hard to put together a list like this. You are sure to get disagreements but you thought it through and put it down for yourself. Congratulations!
I would throw in perhaps Spartacus, Paths of Glory, BHD, Khartoum, Battleground, El Cid, Run Silent, Run Deep, Spy Who Came in From the Cold, and Lawrence of Arabia for my top picks. Damn hard decision, isn't it? ;->

Of all the films you have listed, Rob Roy is the only one I haven't seen. Seeing as I love all the others, I will have to rent it soon.

Another area that I never particularly cared for is the organized crime movie genre.
These things, for the most part, just do nothing at all for me. I simply don't get the appeal, I guess.
Nice choices, though I think I would have chosen more from your secondary list! I do like the contemporary bent, here.

Hello Patrick,
I was not sure if Gone With The Wind was black & white, now I know. I was under the impression that he was a veteran. I'll do some checking on that. Thanks for letting me know on these two errors. Have a good day.

Mistakes (Reply to this comment)
by st_patrick
I couldn't help but notice a couple of errors. "Gone With the Wind" is not a black and white film, and Steven Spielberg is not a Vietnam veteran.
That said, you've got some interesting choices there. I like it when people pick unconventional movies.

Hello Jack,
I didn't find "The Butterfly Effect" as scary as you did, but instead very thought provoking. The idea of going back in time and the consequences of it, have always fascinated me. The movie still trips me out! The Thing has been one of my favorites for many years! The film is excellent! I still have my old VHS version. I'll have to go out and look for the DVD. Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks,
I also like Sydney Pollack! He is one of the greats for sure. Another actor that was not on my list that I really like is Sean Connerey. But then again I don't really care for Clooney, yet one of his movies made my top ten list. I have enjoyed all three LOR releases. The battle scenes are really spectacular! The special effects are great. They just missed making my top ten. Thanks for stopping by!

Yes, it's quite a list, and a good one, too. I found myself agreeing with many of them - never saw 13th Warrier, so I'm looking forward to it.
I also enjoyed your stars/directors list but searched in vain for Sydney Pollack, one of my favs.
Where does LOR fit in your estimation?
Thanks so much. Fun read.

Hello Terrie,
Sorry about pushing your buttons. Although you disagree with me, I still stick by my statement that there is two sides to every story. Dances with Wolves was as one sided as it gets. It shows the Indian side of western expansion. Both the US Cavalry and most Indian tribes participated in ruthless slaughters. The cavalry did it on a much larger scare with out a doubt. Unfortunately there has to be a victor and the Indian Nations were conquered. Indian attacks were as brutal as it gets. At any rate, I respect your opinion and thanks for the read, rate and comment.

Nice list!
Glad to see Legends of the Fall here.. I still find it to be one of those sweeping period drama epics that evokes all kinds of emotions.
Amen to the period piece epic!
Cheers!

Interesting list... (Reply to this comment)
by treeseed
You've got an interesting list here, Mac, although this part struck me, "The movie portrays the US Cavalry as ignorant, ruthless, unjust and unprovoked war mongers. There are two sides to every story and this film shows one." Huh? There's another side to that? I don't think so. Every single one of those adjectives can be applied in spades to Wounded Knee alone and that is only one of thousands of examples. Not enough? Try the Sand Creek massacre in Colorado. There were unquestionably incidents of First Nation ferocity and injustice toward innocent white people (if trespassers, alcoholism and disease spreaders and environment wreckers can be considered innocent) but nothing matches the calculated greed, cruelty and genocide inflicted upon First Nation people by the US government and its military forces in its western expansion...or its northern, southern and eastern expansion for that matter. I don't think it's just a matter of a difference of opinion...there's a few facts that just can't be glossed over.
Well, you sure pushed my buttons...but I enjoyed your list, just the same.

I just wanted to point out that several of the links on your list point to a review of "Klamath National Forest." I mean, that's a cool review too, but I think it might have been a little cut and paste problem:) Excellent list!

i've seen and liked a lot of the films on your list. My favourite is the Exorcist, which I think is one of the scariest films ever and also a great movie in general. Nice work!
