Lovely review! So sad to learn this book was also an epitaph by the author. (I'm sorry I never saw the pre-1997 Hong Kong. Lots of Filipinos visited there in the 50s and 60s to go shopping, as the HK dollar was lower than the Philippine peso - no longer the case for a long time now!).
