| jkkauai's Full Review: Yakima Strap Thang |
I have had my strap thangs mounted on my Vw Vanagon for over 3 years( 1st year+ in So. Calif. / last 2 years in Hawaii ). My Vw Vanagon "never" gets parked under 'any' cover and is exposed to full sun and UV rays all day every day for over 3 years. I have stacked 2 long boards with out any problems and these straps thangs are so easy to use and don't leave any marks on my boards.... I don't know how long they will last and I kinda wonder, so I visually and manually inspect them every now and then...the real trick is to make sure they are installed properly. Not too tight, you want to be able to get your board off the rack but not so loose that the board flops around. The strap thang mounting system or clamps look a bit cheesy but they work really well. I do go the extra mile and tie the loose ends of my strap thangs in a knot behind the strap thang clamp just to be sure the strap thangs do not pull out of the Yakima strap thang clamps. Several of my surfing buddies who use the strap thangs as well, started to do as I have and knot their strap thang loose ends....good tip!
