This was absolutely a terrible shopping experience!
Those shoes look absolutely gorgeous on the website, don't they? WRONG. I don't know who they pay to photograph those shoes, but that person deserves a raise. It seems like good value for the price, but once the two shoes I had ordered arrived, I was sorely disappointed.
In person, the shoes (a pair of silk Espadrilles and a pair of patent leather platforms) looked like Payless Shoes rejects. They were that cheap and poorly made. Also, the shoes are all manufactured by Newport-News themselves. Thus, the sizing is all the same and all shoes are anywhere from half a size to one full size too large!
I wanted to return these shoes, but I did the math and realized that it would be more costly for me to return it. So I kept the shoes and now my dogs have four new chew toys.
Here's the real kicker about Newport News. As soon as you make a purchase, any purchase, you are offered a free trial membership for something called "Insider Pass", which presumably gives discounts and many exclusive free shipping deals. Unfortunately for the store's patrons, it doesn't actually matter if you agree to become a member of Insider Pass or not! As soon as you make ANY purchase from Newport-News you are automatically a member of Insider Pass! That's right, Insider Pass will automatically retrieve whatever credit or debit card number you used to pay for your Newport News purchase and charge you $13 a month for "member benefits". After figuring out where the charge on my credit card came from, I reread the offer email from Newport News about Insider Pass. NOWHERE did it mention that once the free trial (which I did not accept) ended, I would be charged for full membership.
Newport-News represents everything I hate about online shopping, and they are a vile, fraudulent company. I emailed them to ask them to return the money they stole from me, but they have yet to reply (in four days). I am giving them three more days before I report them to the better business bureau. I don't care if they return my money or not. This will not change my opinion of the store, as I am sure there are plenty of people who do not realize they are being charged $13 per month for ordering off a clothing catalogue once. This is a scam, pure and simple.
