gobucky79's Full Review: Midland GXT850VP4 (7 Channels) Two Way Radio
I've owned my Midland 2 Way Radios for just over a year and I have been impressed so far. The signal is very clear. We use these primarily for hunting. Of all the people in our party, my dad and I are heard the best (and most often) because of these radios. I can't imagine anywhere you could be where the signal would go 26 miles, but it does travel further than the 18 mile radios I had before.
The weather function is kind of nice, especially when you're boating. Of course, nowadays everyone carries a cellular phone, but you never know, right?
The battery life is exceptional. One word of warning, though. Make sure you give them a thorough charge. You can easily just look and see all 3 battery life indicators lit up and assume it is near a full charge. However, it seems like it will run a long time on 3 bars, yet it goes down to 2 and 1 and dead really quickly. However, when it is left to charge over night, I can keep it on all day and be fine. If you're using it heavy, just plan on charging it all night.
The unit comes with an adapter for car and home charging, which is really nice. It also comes with 2 headsets. Setting up the radios to play with others can be a challenge, especially with the privacy codes, so be careful there, as well. All in all, the Midland radios perform well, especially when compared to Motorolas. Everyone else in my family has Motorolas and yet our Midlands seem to transmit farther and clearer. Highly recommended.
