| skapa's Full Review: Wolverine MVP (60 GB) Digital Media Player (9060) |
Recently I took a trip to Africa just to take photos and document some of the amazing people in Kenya. While preparing for the trip I was looking at my large stack of Compact Flash cards for my Nikon D70 and wondering how I was going to keep this precious cargo safe and keep track of all of them.
As I looked through some photography forums I came upon the Wolverine MVP 9060. I did some digging and found out that this little device could save my behind. No lugging my PowerBook around with me everywhere (which is quite the endeavor in Africa!), no more trying to keep track of a bunch of small compact flash cards. This was the answer! Not only did the 60GB hard drive keep the 6,000 photos that I took in my 10 days in Kenya, but it also kept it's charge and gave me instant feedback with it's histogram.
The MVP (Media Video Player) will not only make a quick back up (less than 2 minutes to copy and verify the files you have dumped onto the device), but it will let you view them on the 2.5" LCD screen. The video and audio outs are a perfect addition for viewing on a larger monitor (say that TV screen in your hotel room). You can also use MVP to play back audio so no more lugging around an MP3 player and your MVP, leave the iPod at home and use this for all of your media needs. With the 7 different card types that are supported, it is easy to copy any type of media that you might take with you. I even copied a coworkers cards for him so that he could empty his cards and take more photos! (see if I hadn't gotten the MVP, then he would have been out of room by day 4 out of 10!)
You can also hook this device up to your computer and use it as extra storage if you need to along with transferring files via a USB connection. Along with all the necessary cords it includes a drivers CD and a nice nylon case with a belt look.
I found only a few things I wished that Wolverine would change to make this a better product:
1. Give us a couple of different color options. This thing would look amazing in black.
2. Take care of the noisy HDD spinning, maybe a few more shock absorbers in the case.
3. Support for newer formats like h.264 and HD.
4. Better video play back quality in the formats that are supported.
Overall I would highly recommend this product if you are traveling and taking your laptop is either very courageous or very stupid. This $379.00 product is you answer to that stack of compact flash cards or lugging around your laptop to the worlds end!
