My mom passed away in 2002. I miss her so much that sometimes the feeling is impossible to deal with. My husband tries to help me to feel better and so he thought this book might help. It is a book that is filled with stories about mothers and daughters and the special bond that they have.
My own daughter is growing older and thankfully she and I have the same kind of relationship I had with my own mother. My daughter and I can talk and laugh about anything and everything. We comfort each other and support each other. I tell her stories about my own mother and she loves to hear them.
The book, A Cup of Comfort for Mother's and Daughters is filled with stories that remind me of the bond between my mom and me and my daughter and me. The stories are written by mothers about their daughters and by daughters about their mothers. Some of the 49 stories in this 322 page book will make the reader cry. Some will make the reader laugh out loud. Other stories will feel very close to your own life, and remind you of yourself and your own mother or daughter. Some of the stories are about mothers and daughters who do not get along, yet their bond is still there!
While this book is meant to celebrate mother's and daughters, it also celebrates the legacy that is passed on through generations of women. These stories talk about the rites of passage of all women. From birth, to menses, to death. It includes stories about mothers who lose their daughters and daughters who lose their mothers. In these stories women are cherishing each other for their lives. Women are strong and able to carry on because of each other.
This book reminds us of what a "good cry" is all about. Having a good cry is in fact good for the soul. It is comforting. When I read this book, sometimes I laugh and cry at the same time, just as I always did with my own mother.
The stories are written by 49 contributors. The publisher is Adams Media Corporation. A paragraph length biography is written in the back of the book about each contributor. Colleen Sell has edited these stories to fit into this book. This book is filled with intimate secrets between a mother and a daughter. It depicts the mother and daughter in all stages of life, from birth to death. I do not have a favorite story from this book, but here are the titles of the stories:

The title of this book is perfect, A Cup of Comfort. It offers comfort to all of us who are longing for our mothers, and it reminds us that our own daughters need us so much because of the bond we women share through the generations of our families. The comfort comes when we realize that our feelings about our mothers and our daughters are not unique to us. It is one thing that all women have in common. Irecommend this for all women.
