| javajoop's Full Review: Evercare Fabric Shaver |
Winter's in full swing and I've brought out from mothball the appropriate wardrobe this season. However, much to my dismay, I realized upon close inspection, how many of my favorite sweaters, flannels and blankets were deeply marred with pills - annoying clumps of fibers that appear on the fabric surface. Bah, humbug. Last time I took care of these things was when I took my old disposable razor shaver and began to cut carefully a swath through, alas, with uneven and time-consuming results. Other methods worth mentioning are either shaving with a special fine comb found in fabric shops or, worse yet, using a pumice stone to scrub them away. A pumice stone?
The Find
I didn't give it another thought until I headed to Target for the week's shopping. While getting the laundry items, I stumbled upon the Evercare Fabric Shaver hanging at the end of the aisle. Neatly packed in its clear ballistic package, the shaver looks very stylish, measuring 3.5 inches tall, an inch wide round and did resemble an electric facial shaver. The package claims "Heavy Duty Battery Operated Fuzz Remover" and nifty phrases like, "Comfortable grip handle", "Heavy duty motor", "Cleaning Brush", "Easy-to-Remove waste bin", and the ubiquitous, "Batteries not included". Best part was it's price - Six dollars.
Like manna from heaven. I tossed one in the basket and eagerly rendered an afternoon to test drive this bad boy once I got home. My first test item was with my flannel ROOTS hoodie pocked with pills. I popped opened the shaver, inserted the AA batteries and found a bonus that dropped on to the floor; a tiny brush that cleans the blades! The shaver head has a removable clear cover and the blades are easily accessible via a twist-off foil.
The Grind
The shaver wind to life like a little banshee and I soon made haste to cleaning up the tiny devils. My preferred method for doing my wardrobe is to wear the article of clothing and begin shaving. The "nappy-look" soon disappeared and I discovered after forty minutes and thirteen items of clothing, the shaver did a pretty decent job. I manage to frequently emptied the waste receptacle neatly into the trash. For blankets, I laid the them along a hard surface like the kitchen table and meticulously rendered each soft and smooth. Works well on the upholstery found at home, car and RV.
Made my Mind
Ok, as far as frivolous gadgets that occupy your drawer, this ones a keeper. The package warns it should not be used by children and care should be noted in cleaning the blades. Though, I don't experience to many times what other uses I can apply this to aside shaving the neighbor's Build-a-Bear collection, there's not too much to it.
