What a beautiful story. It brought tears to my eyes. My old house had a ghost - we figured it was the man who used to live there. Similar to yours; the husband had died, the wife finally sold the house. We got used to "Walter". He was not malicious; did the turning lights on and off thing. One event I remember very clearly was at our bedroom. It was in the basement, and when the furnace kicked on the door would open (it opened outward). It was very frustrating. One night it opened and I got out of bed muttering to myself. Suddenly the door slammed shut.. as if someone on the outside had placed their hand on it and closed it. No one there. I figured it was Walter. And the door never opened again when the furnace kicked on!

Take care and happy writing,
Becky

For some reason, this man must have been assigned to hang around the area for his wife, since she didn't have too long to live.

Heaven isn't "up there" somewhere. It's all over, so your house must have been meant to remain part of this man's afterlife.

Why he was messing with everything, who knows. Could have just been that he was being an annoying little boy (a typical male trait at times). Or he could have been simply showing his presence--like a testimony that life doesn't end with the death of the body. Of course, he was going beyond that and just having a little fun playing with you and your friends. I wonder if he were a big tease during his mortal life.

Blessings!

you said...
"Most of them shrugged it off anyway, they were used to it."

... lol ... . . .deliciously understated.

Gave me goose bumps. Very nicely done.

What a great story. I so enjoyed reading it. I was never able to figure out who the ghost(s) in my house were in life. Thanks for sharing your story.

You are so welcome.

And thanks for the ability to re-tell this story. I still get goose bumps when I tell it.

By the way, the lights don't go on and off anymore unless we turn them on or off.

Go figure.

Again, thanks for the Write-off.
