The Bottom Line Not everything means your house is haunted. Sometimes you may just need an electrician or plummer.
I have studied paranormal things since I was about 9 years old. I started doing this because at the age of 5 I started seeing people near my bed at night. The first sighting I had was of a woman in a long flowing dress. She had long medium blond hair and was just standing there. I thought that someone had came into the house, but soon she disappeared. This kept up until I decided to find out just what all this was about and if it ever happened to anyone else. My studies took me through a fantastic journey that is still going on today, but that's not what this writing is about. I have read about stories and have experienced many things in my life and I have my own opinions on what hauntings really are. I guess one thing that affects this is that I live with an electrician. But, I will discuss the different things that are considered hauntings and tell you what I think. Malfunctioning electronics. This could be many things. You can't say that a TV is turning channels by itself is a haunting. It is more than likely a bad sensor. Now if this TV is one of the old ones that you have to get up and crank the handle that is a different things. As a matter of fact we have had a couple of TV's that have done this. One of them even kept switching to the religious channel. They both broke down eventually. Lights going on and off. Check your wiring. You might need an electrician rather than a priest. Lights blowing out. Now this is an "iffy" subject with me. I believe that some people have the ability to explode light bulbs when they get angry. My older daughter does this. When she gets mad lights start popping like popcorn. It might also be that we buy cheap light bulbs, but it always seems to happen when she get mad about something. Ghost Photos. This is really strange. I have taken them myself. I have many photos that I know are not trickery. They are genuine. I don't know about some that have been taken over the years, but I do know the ones that I have taken weren't lens flares or tricks of light. They are real. I also believe it takes a special person to take these photos. I know that I am the only one in my family that has ever gotten a ghost photo. They are always unexpected, too. Objects flying across the room. This has happened to me before. I have seen things go flying with nothing there to propel them through space. My mother has seen this, too. I have also seen things fall that were being held up by sturdy objects. I do believe this has something to do with hauntings. Voices, knocks, etc. These things I really consider hauntings IF they are heard when there is no other things to cause them. I have had this happen and the first thing I ever did was to check to see if a TV or radio was left on or if a phone was left off the hook. I have heard many things and have answered the door when it was knocked upon many times only to find no one there. I just don't think that all people who hear voices in their house are in need of medication. Strange visitors. There are two very weird stories that I have in mind on this subject. One was when I was getting ready to go camping. I was in a big hurry to get things packed and was running around the house like a mad woman. Suddenly a knock came on the door and I hurried to answer it. It was a frail old man and he asked me for a drink of water. I went to get him one and he drank the whole glass. After he thanked me he disappeared. I never did see where he went or found out who he was. Another story I like to tell is of the guy who appeared in my living room one night. We had a bad lock on our back door and my mom kept telling me that if we didn't get it fixed we were going to have a drunk standing in our living room. One night the dogs became alert, but didn't really bark. I went to the living room to find a young man standing there. He wanted to know where Sherry was. I kept telling him that he had the wrong house. After he left I went back to bed and then it dawned on me. We had sensor lights on the front and back doors. He had NOT set them off. Where he went, I don't know. I never saw him again and never found out who Sherry was. Needless to say we bought a new lock. Ghost sightings. These are the things that can't be explained. These are the hearts and souls of hauntings. An apparition is the one thing that tells for sure there is a haunting going on. I have seen my share of spirits in one way or another. I never have been scared, though. I have always been in awe. My family thinks it's nuts, but when we started considering that our own house could be haunted they thought I should be in seventh Heaven. I have enjoyed it, I have to admit. I could write volumes on the things that have gone on around here. Poltergeists. These are definitely hauntings and I believe they exist. I know some have been faked over the years, but there have been many that were real. Poltergeists are never pleasant or fascinating like ghost sightings are. They can be dangerous and very annoying. The bottom line is these are part of a true haunting. Possessions. I'm not sure about this. I know that people say they still happen and The Exorcist was supposed to be base on a real possession, but it is such a touchy subject. I know that any doctor I have talked to will always prescribe some kind of pill when someone comes to them and says they are possessed. I think that people today would rather believe that it was a defective person because the alternative is unthinkable. Mysterious Writings. The first time I ever heard of this was when I read the book about Borley Rectory in Great Britain. Harry Price was once a famous paranormal investigator and went to this place to investigate its many stories. Each morning he stayed there he would wake up and more writing would be on the wall. None of it made sense and only appeared during the night time hours. I have also heard of other mysterious writings and have just come to one conclusion. The only true incident of writing on walls was in the Bible when the king called Daniel to interpret what it meant. I think all the others have a more earthly explanation. Automatic Writing. Some people can do this, but I'm still a little skeptical because the ones that I have seen do it never really write anything specific. It is alway vague and could be interpreted any way you want it. Until someone sits in front of me and writes some real pinned down stuff I will remain skeptical. Seances Bologney. 'Nuff said. Ouija Boards Same as seances. Stop moving the plaquet, people. Tarot Cards. Can be weird. I have tried doing several different readings as tests and it always seems to come up with the same ideas. It may be arranged in different cards, but it always came out the same. Ooooohhhh. I will always be interested in ghosts and what they are all about. A lot of my writing has been inspired by true ghost stories that I have either heard or have been involved in. I think the main reason I enjoy ghosts is because it gives me evidence of the afterlife. I have always believed one confirmed the other. So, the next time you see a ghost, don't be afraid. Try to see how long it hangs around and what it does. You may find out a few things. Happy Halloween.:-) |
