Much better than expected

The Bottom Line: If you need a bluetooth that works well and you don't need to impress your friends with cost or brand name get this one

I got this little gem for Christmas. I have been looking at Bluetooth headsets for about a year now and never found one for less than about $100 that I would settle for, I couldn’t rationalize the cost when I already had a wired headset so I never bought one.

This one isn’t one I would have bought for myself and was planning on being disappointed when I first tired it out. I wasn’t disappointed at all. It is very easy to use, the incoming sound is perfect and the outgoing sound, I left myself voicemails to see how I sounded, is not exactly perfect but pretty darn good.

What’s in the box?
- The headset
- An over the ear clip
- A wired earpiece attachment
- A replacement rubber earbud
- A charging cord

The battery:
The box claims a standby of 170 hours and talk time of 4 to 6 hours. I’ve not done pure tests but I’ve had the unit for 13 days and have only had to charge it once, aside from the initial charge. I will guess that I have talked on it for about 7 hours so the leaves about 305 hours of talk time. By my calculations I’m doing better than the box proposed. On the first charge you are supposed to charge it fully for 6 hours, my subsequent charge only took 70 minutes. Only time will tell how well the battery holds up.

The unit itself:
It’s pretty light, the package says 13 grams, that means nothing to me, I’d say it weighs about the same as 2 quarters.
It of course has the flashing blue light that tells you the status of it… powered on, connected, not connected, battery needs to be charged etc. It’s pretty nondescript and standard for Bluetooth headsets.
There are 3 buttons, the power button also picks up and ends calls. A volume up and a volume down button located on opposite sides of the unit. Pressing both at the same time will mute the headset. Hitting the buttons in different combinations and for different lengths of time will perform different functions that are explained in detail in the owners manual.

The sound quality is much better than I expected, as clear as if I was using the phone itself. The volume goes from too loud to almost not audible, so there should be a comfort range in there to suit most everyone. The outgoing sound is pretty clear as well, I like that the mic is sensitive enough that I can talk at a normal volume, the trade off there is that it also picks up background noise pretty well.

The ear hook is made of pliable rubber and as comfortable as it can be for having something hanging on your ear. The ear bud is pretty standard size and works just fine for me as well, given that there is an ear hook you don’t need to jam the bud into your ear to make it stay on, you can just rest it in your ear however is comfortable to you.
The box claims a range of 10 meters, about 32 feet, I tested this a few times and my ranges were between 25 and 40 feet.

I understand that some Bluetooth items are not compatible with certain phones. I can’t say much on that other than I have an LG VX8300 from Verizon and it mated up just fine.

Now there is only one thing that this headset doesn’t have that I thought I would have liked and that is noise canceling, but after using this for a bit I’m not so sure that noise canceling would really improve my quality of life that much, it just sounded like a cool feature to have.

This unit also came with a wired earpiece so that you can wear the unit itself on a chain or breast pocket. This is a feature I haven’t used and doubt I will, but if that is something you are looking for it is there for you.

I got it as a gift but looked online and it sells for anywhere from $11 to $30. After having used it I would buy it even at the upper cost.
