Deepdiscount.com, formerly DeepdiscountDVD.com & DeepDiscountCD.com
I ran across deepdiscount’s website a few years ago while searching online for a particular movie I couldn’t seem to find at my normal sources. Deepdiscount came up in the search results having the item in stock so I checked their website out & I’m glad I did.
I don’t remember what the movie was I bought, but I was pleased with their website design, selection of products, pricing & shipping options.
SELECTION:
DD (let’s shorten the name so I don’t have to type all that in a hundred times) has a good selection of most any movie I could ever want. Sometimes the item is listed, but when you add it to the shopping cart, you get a message that the item is not released yet (usually giving the release date). This isn’t a bad thing, especially if you want to pre-order something that isn’t going to be released for a week or so.
Aside from DVD’s, once the site merged with its sister (or brother) company deepdiscountcd.com, you have a vast selection of CD’s all in one place.
Previously, if you wanted to purchase a DVD & a CD, you had to visit both websites to place your order. Now, everything is in one place, making it convenient.
Now they even have HDDVD’s & BluRay disc movies. I’m not jumping on EITHER of these bandwagons until the format war is settled & there is a clear unified winner.
If movies & music aren’t enough, DD also has posters & memorabilia. I haven’t purchased anything other than movies or music, so I can’t comment on those other products.
PRICING:
DD has competitive prices with amazon & overstock.
I always comparison shop between several sources for the best price. Most times DD is within a few cents of amazon & is usually a little cheaper than overstock. There are some times I’ve found a movie on DD for $5.99 that is selling on amazon for $24.99, exact same movie.
I check the site weekly (sometimes daily) and I’ve found special discounts (they also email discount codes from time to time).
Some of the discounts seem too good to be true, but I’ve never been disappointed.
My favorite deals are the buy one get one (of equal value or less) FREE. I’ve purchased several DVD sets this way.
SHIPPING:
I have no complaints with their shipping. I use their FREE shipping (USPS media mail) and my orders normally arrive within 7 to 10 business days.
They offer other options for expedited shipping, but I don’t see the need to spend extra money to get my movies a day or two faster.
Oddly enough, this year around Christmas (busiest shipping time of the year) my orders (with FREE shipping) have arrived in less than 5 business days, sometimes in just 3 days. Not bad for FREE shipping.
SITE DESIGN:
The site is pretty simple to navigate.
You can browse by DVD, CD, etc using the large buttons near the top of the page, or you can enter the title of the movie in the search box, select DVD from the drop down, click search & you’ll be given all movies that match your search criteria.
If you want to search for an actor or director, you’ll get results consisting of movies that feature the actor, etc.
While on the page of any particular item (lets say it’s a DVD), you can click on the name of an actor, director, etc to see more results linked to the actor, director or whatever you are looking for.
Each item page will have additional information about the movie (or CD or whatever you’re looking at). Details such as: special features, format (widescreen or fullscreen), cast, similar movies, etc. Again, this is helpful if you’re looking for the Director’s Cut of a movie that may have a Theatrical Cut, a Director’s Cut & an Uncut version.
My only complaint about the site is that their login sessions expire after a few minutes. If you put items in your shopping cart & want to move them to your wish list a few minutes later, you may have to login again.
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
I have emailed DD concerning price matching or additional item info, but the response time was pretty slow (5 or more business days). They eventually answered the questions, but by the time I received their response, I had purchased the item elsewhere.
So far, I haven’t had to return anything.
All of the movies I’ve purchased have been correct; although on a couple occasions, the discs inside have been loose & were scratched (they still played fine, but had visible scuffs).
DD is a lesser known outlet than amazon or overstock, but they have delivered cheap prices, great products & FREE shipping.
