There are very few items I have reviewed that have affected my life as GREEN FOR LIFE by Victoria Boutenko has done.
Let me back up a little bit.
For quite some time we have been getting vegetables supplied to us through amazing circumstances. Dare I say that is what has enabled my family to survive many a rough winter. We always knew that we could have SOMETHING to eat that would cause us all to be very thankful for our supply.
However, this year, all of that changed. In addition to my husband being out of work for quite a few weeks when the company closed that he worked for, we had our source of vegetables dry up due to a very greedy party who took control of the supply.
This combination caused me many a sleepless night wondering how we were going to survive with only about 1/4 of the already meager grocery money available to buy us groceries.
I had made a huge breakthrough in reversing allergies by eating a primarily raw foods diet with occasional fish and cooked foods with a few supplements I just found out about this past summer. I did not want to have to abandon that- but things were not looking good at all.
HOW DID A BOOK SOLVE MY GROCERY PROBLEMS?
After much prayer and mental gymnastics, I reached the conclusion that it was going to take a miracle to cause us to be able to buy groceries which would feed four people, keep us healthy, and not have any go to waste. It seemed totally impossible.
I began to look on Amazon one day, not really sure what I might find, but somehow- I still do not know how to this day- I stumbled upon the GREEN FOR LIFE book by Victoria Boutenko.
I read the reviews and looked through the sample pages, and something clicked inside. The revolutionary information I have come upon this year has brought me a long distance to reversing nagging health problems which have crippled me every summer for as long as I can remember. This book seemed to go hand in glove with this information.
The essence of what this book introduced was a way to efficiently use very high protein/high nutritional dark greens in a raw state that everyone in the family will want to partake in restoring nutrients to the body in a way that nothing else can do .
The things that I found intriguing about this book is that many who began to adopt this way of eating/drinking soon found that their appetite waned through the day having gotten so many nutrients through their greens.
I am an experimenter by nature, so I was very curious. If this would work with my forever starving husband and very large framed son who eats anything BUT dark greens, then I would know that this truly was the miracle I was looking for.
WHAT IS GREEN FOR LIFE ABOUT?
In short, what GREEN FOR LIFE is about is a woman who ate raw foods and whole foods for most of her life. She had been eating what every modern resource said would get her the highest form of health, except that she was not experiencing it to the degree that she thought she would.
Her husband was not doing overly well, and she said that it disturbed her how so many people who are vegan/vegetarian often appear either emaciated or sallow in appearance and later have health problems- this was exactly what has bothered me over the years. I knew that there had to be an answer as well.
Victoria, raised in Russia, began to search out the answer. Upon observing nature and doing research, Victoria found that the animals closest to humans in makeup ate dark leafy greens and chewed them up thoroughly- something that hardly anyone in Western culture does today.
She began to research the nutritional value of greens and how pulverizing them makes them available to the body vs, just chewing lightly as most people do these days.
Then she began to experiment on herself. After a period of several to six months, even her husband was amazed at the change in her complexion and skin. She had rosy cheeks again!
Victoria then began to desire to run her own experiments with volunteers who would agree to adopt this simple change in their diet for one month. She wanted them to answer a questionnaire at the end and then publish what she found.
A doctor happened to approach her desiring to learn about this new finding of hers, and he agreed to participate in the test as well as preside over it to make sure that no one was putting themselves at serious risk.
Each person was given 1 gallon of green smoothie every few days to spread out among those days for one month. Victoria and her team supplied these people with them faithfully and drove them to their houses. Some people went so nuts over them, that they even made MORE in addition to the gallons they were given during the month.
The results were very interesting. Not everyone out of the 30ish people they picked to do this stuck it out, a few dropped out. However, those that did stay with it- well, the photo said a ton to me- they all had rosy cheeks, and as a makeup artist, I know when someone has been using makeup to alter their appearance. This photo I saw was natural.
WHAT IS GREEN FOR LIFE PLAN?
So, you might be wondering what this remarkable thing is that Victoria stumbled upon. It is very simple.
All you do is incorporate 1 quart of green smoothie into your diet daily. It can be a mix of simple fruit or vegetables with it just to make it palatable, but the majority of the intake is dark leafy greens.
You have to alternate the greens daily as well as the mixers with it. If you settle into rut, you will not stay with it.
There are recipes in the back for different versions of their most popular smoothies to get you started. In my house, we made a few of our own favorites.
The book gives a lot of information which will make you keep going at the beginning when you start to wonder why on earth you are starting something that seems so silly.

MY EXPERIENCES WITH GREEN SMOOTHIES
Those of you who do not know me, will probably not believe that I go to such lengths to test products and health habits, but I do. I love to learn about things and I often use myself as an experiment.
In order to see if this plan REALLY worked, I took some of the proposed changes that happen- being facial changes, anti aging of amazing rapidity, skin change over time, loss of puffiness, etc, and I decided to do my lifestyle change online.
I did this so that people who see me online often in a makeup forum where I have displayed pictures for several years on a regular basis could see if this REALLY was making a visible change, or if it was not.
So, I began with bare faced photos- and photos on day 1- and I began to post photos for 6 weeks of my green smoothie addition to my diet.
The only other change I made was a complete break with any fermented food such as organic wine, and yeasted breads.
I also stuck to my usual majority raw foods diet, but with no other changes in my consumption of cooked foods from before.
I did not do anything different.
Weekly as I posted the photos, I began to get letters from people who were amazed at the huge change it was bringing to me. I had many requests for information on how to find this book because others were interested in doing this for themselves having seen results with me.
I have to say that I am amazed at the changes it has brought about to my face and skin. However, it takes a year to bring about a renewal of cells so I plan on seeing how much it affects me then.
MY FAMILY ACTUALLY LIKES THIS STUFF!!
What I am amazed about the most is the reaction my family has had to this new change.
My grocery bills are focused- I buy Kale, Collard, Mesculin mix, and a few extras rotating through the weeks to keep us going. I buy some fruits and vegetables, and occasional asiago cheese as a treat to grate lightly over dinners when we want to feel decadent.
If I had bought this without green smoothies, it would rot uneaten in the fridge. No one would enjoy it - trust me.
However, when I start up the Vita Mix (I have a very old one) I kid you not- my kids come running up at me with an empty glass outstretched.
If my son comes upstairs and I ask if he wants some green smoothie, his eyes light up like I offered him a candy bar-"REALLY? You HAVE SOME I CAN HAVE?"
This is almost beyond belief sometimes if I think about it. My husband drinks his daily before work (I have never been able to get him to do ANYTHING regularly before work- or at all for that matter except say how hungry he is all of the time).
And miraculously, my son and husband no longer carry on constantly about how hungry they are. I thought they were eating on the sly somehow, but I have spent several days with them non-stop and they were not eating.
The green smoothies have balanced the hunger and eating of everyone in the family- we are all satisfied with eating less- it is amazing.
USEFUL IN THE ANTI FUNGAL DIETS
Also, it fits in perfectly with the anti fungal knowledge that I have gained in the past years in defeating most diseases. I can not stand the anti yeast program diet that many people refer to - never could.
However, the green smoothies was the missing link to how to defeat fungus which amazingly enough is showing up as a root cause of most major diseases by doctors who are brave enough to stand up and say what they have found without a shadow of a doubt.
The Phase One Diet which many people say they love was out of the question for me- it made me want to hurl. However, mostly raw foods, with a balance of cooked, occasional fish, and tofu or very occasional goat cheese achieves an even more dramatic effect if you make sure to have green smoothies with it.
Of course, the green smoothies have to honor the phase one diet restrictions of green apples, berries- no sweet fruits, etc.
WHAT I HAVE NOTICED IN OUR FAMILY FROM THIS CHANGE
Here is a brief list of what changes we have seen since adopting 1 quart of green smoothies a day
-high bulk- no constipation (if drinking enough water all day)
- radical skin change- my husband literally looks 15 years younger most days.
- rosy cheeks!
-loss of bloating
- better digestion- only drinking green smoothies by itself as a meal, by the way- NOT with food.
-FAST absorption of supplements if we take them- they used to take days to take effect- now it is just hours.
- fuller satisfied feeling- cravings gone
-better moods- everyone is happy most of the time- a true breakthrough with four people in a household!
I have been so thrilled with the breakthrough I have made since discovering the link with fungi, yeast, mycotoxins and related things to major diseases and health problems. This has been a fantastic freedom for me and when I thought we could not afford to stay healthy, I was crushed.
GREEN FOR LIFE has changed my life in a fabulous way. The green smoothies have been a key that I have been looking for for a long time. I am really excited. And the way it has made our grocery spending so much more efficient has been a dream come true.
Although I do not agree with Victoria in that she does not see the point of eating roots (carrots, parsnips, potatoes, etc), and she has a few other philosophies that I am not in agreement with, I do agree that the green smoothies are a breakthrough of huge proportions in my life and that of others that know me.
I can not recommend it highly enough.

OUR FAVORITE GREEN SMOOTHIE RECIPE
Here is one of our favorite green smoothie recipes when we can find good prices on the fruits
1 ripe banana
1/4 ripe fresh pineapple
3 c kale, collard, mesculin, turnip greens, parsley- etc- rotate the greens, and use combinations if desired- but not the same every day.
Throughly blend until the greens are completely pulverized and very few tiny pieces visible.
This recipe is not for use on antifungal diets such as Phase one- but you can substitute organic granny smith apple for banana and 1/4c berries for the pineapple.
Again, however, I must stress that if I did not have the book to read over during the first month of this I would not have stuck to it- the information in there is valuable to keep you going until you begin to see the big changes.
