Pros: Good selection of "pretty" phones.
Cons: Just about everything else...
The Bottom Line: Cellular One apparently doesn't need the business of new or existing customers. They seem to think they're doing YOU a favor. No thanks, Cellular One!

| andreabird's Full Review: General Reviews of Cellular One Customer Service |
Now, my mother taught me that if you don't have anything nice to say about someone not to say anything at all, but in this case, I feel compelled.
Just yesterday I gave my disconnection notice to Cellular One and I'm really looking forward to signing with another company. When we first moved to this dinky town in the middle of Georgia Cellular One was the only game in town, so I gladly signed up feeling lucky that they'd even HEARD of cellular phones here.
I'm not someone who chats on my cell phone regularly, I just use it when we travel (which is often) back to see my family the NYC area or my husband's family in TN. I'll use for convenience occasionally, but mainly I have it for safety purposes. My point? I didn't need a huge plan with lots of minutes I wasn't going to use. I signed up for Cellular One's least expensive plan which, in my opinion was all that inexpensive. For $30 a month I get 60 minutes.
The thing that really aggravated me was that I barely used the phone while travelling because the roaming fee was $3.99 AND the local calling area was so pitiful that I could barely cross the street without roaming. So, basically, I was paying $30.00 a month to be able to call my husband from the grocery store and say "did I forget anything" or I'd give it to him when he went to the local ice cream place so he could read me the selection of goodies (this actually has come in quite handy now that I'm pregnant and forever craving Dairy Queen!).
All that in itself wouldn't have been enough for me to terminate service, it was the abominable customer service that really got to us. The salespeople are unknowledgeable, the technicians are downright dopey, the accounts people are rude, and the telephone people for the 800 number are completely unwilling and unable to help you in any way.
I'm the kind of person who'd be willing to pay a little extra if the service is exceptional and the representatives of the company are kind and grateful for your business. When I went in to terminate my service I expected to get all kinds of incentives to stay with Cellular One, after all, I've never been late with a payment or given them an ounce of trouble. I might have considered staying with the company had they said, "well, if you stay we'll give you more minutes." All I got when I politely when up to the service window and said "I need to terminate service please" was a nasty look and a paper slapped in front of me that I was ordered to sign.
Of course, being the smart woman that I am, I went to the other cellular dealers in our town (there's now a choice of 3 other companies) to make sure I could get a better deal. With the exception of Cingular, the other companies fell over each other trying to get my business. They were knowledgeable about their products and services, they were willing to work with me regarding a sign on date, etc. It was at that point I decided to RUN from Cellular One as quickly as I could.
FYI, we've decided to sign with VoiceStream. They seem to have the best deal available. The offer 2500 minutes a month for $39.99. There’s NO roaming fee or long distance charge. We're even going to cancel our home long distance and use the cell phone from now on! Plus, they have all kinds of really neat features you can access through "myvoicestream" including sending text messages, etc. But that's another review. I'll write that one as soon as we're up and running with VoiceStream.
